General Board / Scenarios - exceptions/loops in an alternate path
« on: July 23, 2014, 12:34:41 am »
Hi Everyone!

I'm using structured scenarios to detail the steps in activities that don't really need to be broken down into further detail.

I may be being very dim here, but the rule on only allowing alternate paths and exceptions to the basic path seems very restrictive.

What happens if you have an exception in the alternate path?

What happens if there is an exception in your exception process?

Only way I've found of representing looping behaviour is to have an alternate path that rejoins the main path at the beginning of the loop - but what happens when my alternate path needs a looping behaviour?

I'm really hoping I can find a way around this, or I'm going to have to write all my process steps manunally rather than using EA. EEK!

Bugs and Issues / Re: Output of an RTF Script without linebreaks

I've raised a bug (ref 14109186) along very similar lines a couple of weeks ago.

Interestingly, I've just noticed, that the linebreaks are only removed if there are formatting tags in the note. If there aren't, and formatted="1" is still in place, the line breaks are fine.

I just changed single word to bold in the notes, re-generated the document and the word appeared bold, and the line break disappeared!

Thanks for the idea Simon, but it still just printed the <br/> rather than interpreting it. I suspect that it translates certain formatting tags, but not everything.

I noticed the same. I was using a custom fragment script to display notes fields with formatting, and what you describe happend to me too. I noticed that the formatted seemed to be translating html tags to RFT, so I tried enclosing my notes data in <pre></pre> tags in a CDATA section, but they just appeared as text before and after my notes.

It seems that is only interprets certain tags.

I tried using
to replace line breaks with forced formatting, but that doesn't work either.

I suspect this is a bug, as the behavior is very inconsistent.

Great! I will await with baited breath... Thanks!  ;)

Bugs and Issues / ActivityPartition "claims" edge-mounted event
« on: October 23, 2014, 01:37:40 am »

I've noted since the latest upgrade, ActivityPartitions in a BPMN diagram are very aggressively moving items within the partition into the partition within the model hierarchy. This is annoying with some items I have linked to, but completely unusable when just moving the activity partition causes it to move an edge mounted start event from the activity it's supposed to be linked to, and mounts it on the activity partition!

Has anyone else had this happen? Does it need to be raised as a bug.

Any suggestions appreciated...

Bugs and Issues / Scripting engine seems to "cache" parts of scripts
« on: October 23, 2014, 02:25:41 am »

I'm having some very weird stuff going on with a script in 11.1.1112.

I run a script a few times, and make changes from one run to another. After a few runs, it appears to cache certain functions, and not run the current script.

In order to get the changes to run, I need to quit EA and restart.

It even did this across projects - I closed one project, opened a new one, and run a script with a function having the same name, and it ran the function from the previous project, not the current one.

Is there some setting I need to change or is this a bug? (It's hard to reproduce at will, as it only happens from time to time.)

Uml Process / Postcondition in a BPMN Business Process element
« on: October 21, 2014, 08:55:13 pm »

I've tried to add a postcondition (in the advanced attributes section of the properties page) and it's made a complete mess of the diagram element. It seems to have vertically partitioned the business process element and shown the postcondition as a stereotype on the right hand side. Nothing I do will remove this - even explicitly suppressing postcondition in the stereotypes feature visibility.

Does anyone know how to stop this, other than by removing the postcondition (which I'm using for documentation elsewhere).

This only appears on Business Process elements. Activity elements are fine.

Uml Process / How to represent a process call in BPMN
« on: October 06, 2014, 10:58:35 pm »

I have a diagram I want to put one process on, but called from more than one flow. I'm obviously looking at this all wrong, because I can't find anything by googling.

How do I represent the following on the same diagram?

Start --> Activity 1 --> Process --> Activity 2 --> End

Start --> Activity 3 --> Call to Same Process as Above --> Activity 4 --> End

Thanks for looking!

Uml Process / Re: Representing accounting consequences of activi
« on: June 11, 2014, 05:14:13 pm »
Hi! Thanks for the reply.

Somewhere between the two. I currently have a "flowchart" of how the financial process works, which I want to incorporate into the physical business process, so there is one version of the truth, as part of the problem I'm facing is so many "process diagrams" from different area's points of view.

I kind of want to see the financial impact of an activity on the diagram without it taking over the whole diagram, hence not having a separate "credit this account" and "debit this account" activity.

It seems something that just isn't done, as I've not found any previous discussions of this, except for one academic paper, which was too academic to be useful to me.

Uml Process / Representing accounting consequences of activities
« on: June 11, 2014, 01:29:31 am »
Hi! I'm trying to model a set of processes in BPMN, which include buying, stock movements etc., and each of these physical processes has an accounting consequence.

Is there any accepted way of showing the debit/credit impacts of an activity? Googling hasn't come up with anything useful.

I've always linked my fragments within an element, but I'm not sure that is necessary.

Presumably, you are running the report against a single object (either a package or element) - if it's an element, then nothing in the package space will get printed unless it's within the element space (I think).

Had already been reported...

Bug no 15082132

Hi! I'm generating documents in EA12.1, and it would seem that whenever I have a notes field in my template, such as {Element.Notes}, {Att.Notes} or {Meth.Notes}, it puts a blank line after the notes field, regardless of the fact there is no blank line within the notes page, and I've been very careful to ensure that there is no blank line are in the template that aren't properly bookmarked, every notes field is followed by a blank line.

It makes my tables look ridiculous!  :(

Is there any way of stopping it, or do I need to file a bug report?
