General Board / System Tasks etal printing
« on: October 13, 2004, 04:13:05 pm »
Two years and I've never tried to do this before  :-X

I've dutifully entered a whole swag of things to do in the System/Tasks list.

Now I want to print them.

I am also now 50 years old and the eyesight is not as good as it was.

SO how the heck do I change the list it prints from approximately 3 point arial to something I can read?  And while I'm at it how do I make it print in landscape.

... hopefully my last newbie question of the week...

I've just created about 50 odd event elements as Send's ( [> ) instead of Receives ( >] )

Is there any way to change them?

Could anyone please explain what this does? (If anything?) In C#?

%if elemType == "Interface"%
%if opTag:"Attribute" != ""%
%REPLACE(opTag:"Attribute", ";", "\n")

General Board / EA Lite versions
« on: September 16, 2004, 04:04:38 pm »
Hey - here's a little one.

I'm pretty quick when it comes to updating to the latest and greatest EA version.

Now, I have several users of this monster integration model I am developing and they all use the Lite version as they are readers only.

Now is there any need for them to update every time I do? Or is the Lite version (as long as its 4.1) fairly .. release indendent?

p.s.  If they should be following me - is there a zip pack for Lite somewhere- rather than the full download?

General Board / Good idea needed
« on: September 13, 2004, 05:38:44 pm »
Same old scenario...

I've got a major system integration project, 56 components, 170 odd interfaces and over 300 dataflows ("connections") ... blah blah

Now the big picture has come down to 11 logical component diagrams which represent the view of the flows between subsystems grouped by the "type of business flows" for example all the subsystems for interacting with the bank for electronic banking are on a single model, all those regarding "accounting" on another etc.

As an example the payments out can be via cheque, direct credit or etc, cheque requests are handled by subsytem "POC", direct credits go via "PODCr" these two interact with the banking interface subsystem "BI" which communicates with the bank.  Now both POC and PODCr send payment postings batches to the GL system. So the banking model has all these subsystems.  Fine and dandy.

Now the problem....

On the Accounting model I have both POC and PODCr elements.  POC is the nominal "head subsystem" for banking.  It is a composite element, with the banking model diagram underneath it in the tree.  When I add POC to the accounting view diagram I get a nice composite element that is clickable to take the user to the banking diagram.  However, PODCr is not a composite element.

Good idea needed!

How can I make the PODCr element in the accounting diagram clickable to take the user to the banking diagram?

General Board / File links on connectors
« on: August 23, 2004, 08:25:43 pm »
 :'( :'( :'(

Any one got a good idea?  I need to build a document map for 170 subsystem interfaces (approx 300 dataflows) - The subsystems are all modelled as components and the dataflows as assemblies, documents specifying the implementation of the dataflows have been modelled as "artifacts" called Interface Contracts which specify dataflow, transfer layer, scheduling and connectivity.  We need to build a document map that alows a reader (viewer) to find the interface contract from either the system, the dataflow or the interface (interface in this context being a lollipop on a component.

I cant link the artifact elements to the assemblies!!!!

Of course they need it yesterday -  any ideas?

Unless Sparx can issue an update today that provides a file link tab for conections    :'( :'(

General Board / "Communication Path" - cant find it

A quick one!

I am sure that yesterday I saw the toolbox item for this association subtype.  Does anyone know where it is?

General Board / Ordering inherited features
« on: July 27, 2004, 08:32:17 pm »
An obscurity, I know ;)

We have a class that has lots and lots of inherited features.  We want to see these features in thi particular diagram - so we turn on display inherited features.  OK so far.

Now the class concerned is quite complex and the inheritence is also quite complex (one may even say it has "multiple circular inheritence" if such a thing existed - which it dont).

It would help us if we could get the order that the inherited features are listed in the diagram into some sort of "logical" order.  I dont see how this can be achieved?  I dont even see how the order that is there is derived?

Anyone got any good ideas?

General Board / class multiplicity
« on: May 23, 2004, 05:46:51 pm »
This, asked by one of the analysts, stumped me.  :-[

On a class element, in the properties window, in the Advanced section, one can set multiplicity.  And this shows up on the diagram in the class name compartment below the name on the RHS as, for example {1..*}

What does multiplicity on a class "mean"?

General Board / Quickie! hiding docked bars
« on: June 22, 2004, 07:50:30 pm »
Is there a way to speed up the closing of the docked windows in Autohide mode? I have turned off the animation in the view menu but they still take a dogs age to dissappear - specially the toolbox and the source code window which I have docked on the LHS of the screen.

General Board / Diagrams at the project root level
« on: June 22, 2004, 08:03:15 pm »
Cant find the original discussion about this.

As at 729 we can create root level diagrams again!!

At the Start Page, just use the Diagram/New Diagram menu item.

General Board / Collaboration diagrams - hiding message detail
« on: June 09, 2004, 05:31:39 pm »
Is there some way to hide returns and parameters on collaboration diagram messages?

Strange idea I know but what has happened is that the evolution of the design is now cluttering up the diagram so badly I want to re-present a summary diagram.

The diagram involves 29 objects and 60 odd messages, there are three classes of object and the entire transaction cannot be expressed more simply.  Its a fairly sequential "flow" of messages - in fact there are only 3 message types and each message in the transaction is differentiated by its parameter values.

Each individual sub transaction is being modelled in a separate diagram where we are adding parameter values specific to each section.

However, these parameter values appear on our overall summary diagram and are cluttering it up something special.

All I want to see on the summary diagram is the message type.  What I am looking for is something similar to the "Show Parameter Detail" option on the diagram properties screen.

General Board / Override highlighting
« on: May 30, 2004, 06:18:38 pm »
Is there a way of making overrides more visible in the class elements?

| <prop> +PropX():bool|

PropX overrides the same operation in classb.

Surely  ??? there is some way in UML of making this fact visible in the diagram.

General Board / Cranial implosion! Events and collaborations
« on: May 31, 2004, 07:25:02 pm »
How do I show event signals on communications diagrams as being the same event?

I have a simulation timer that fires tick events every so often.  On the diagram are several objects, all of which respond to the signal.  The order in which they respond is immaterial (he said bravely :-/)   Each object has its own handler method and therefore a message can be created from the associations between each object and the responding object - but they have sequence numbers on them that are confusing to say the least.

I am sure I have done this before  :(

Anyone - please help - I've got to give a pres on SOBA/SODA tomorrow and I need these diagrams to be particularly clean and as indicated I have had a real brain implosion.

General Board / 727 and C# constructors
« on: May 19, 2004, 10:22:06 pm »
 >:(  >:(  >:(
Is it just me,  (not that I'm paranoid), or does build 727 insist that a method have a return type.

The current system we are looking at has several gazillion constructor overrides and every time I touch one of them it sets the return type to void.  Thus effectively converting the constructor to a general method.

Have I changed some setting somewhere that is causing me this grief?
