Suggestions and Requests / Re: TEXTUAL ANALYSIS and CRC CARD DIAGRAMS
« on: July 17, 2007, 09:58:59 am »
what is the alternative way to do the textual analysis then ? Should I create an empty analysis diagram and put text on it and create visual links to actors and/or use case scenarios ?

Note sure this is exactly what you are looking for, but I usually use this form of a Textual Use Case Description as a partial basis of my requirements analysis.  They are, of course, written at a high level of abstraction and are very goal (as opposed to design) oriented. I like to get user sign-off on these before I begin a formal modeling process.  I do create small, high-level UC diagrams for inclusion in the text document as an aid to understanding.  I also create CIM level class diagrams to model the stakeholders and important business objects.

It isn't the click-n-drag approach you want, but its how I do it.  I don't like to invest too much in the modeling until the Stakeholders and I are sure we are on the same page.

Absolutely no links for behavioral diagrams from State actions such as entry, exit. Not even ability to attach behavior diagram to Class operations. This is very important to have an easy navigational map for the model.
Add my vote for this feature!  I think this is important to aid model reader navigation.

Does anyone have an opinion on this or is it just me? ??? :-[

I think the answer is No.

Since I don't use Corba, I don't have an opinion, and assuming your request is consistent with good software development, I think the request is reasonable; therefor, I don't think it is just you.

Sorry I could not help with your initial question.

Add my vote too.
Would also be nice to highlight in the browser, elements selected in the current diagram.

You mean I can post something like "I found a bug ..." and someone from Microsoft will not only read but file that for a bug fix in say a month or so?

Usually you get: "Its not a bug; its a feature!"  Then your ontology gets re-aligned to take advantage of it.  Typical of large software corporations. ::)

Is there any support page where I could turn to when I evaluate to purchase Office?  :-X

If you mean MS Office, there is a huge set of newsgroups that support users of Office products.

Just got word that the notation form for transitions in Protocol state machines (as defined in the UML 2 spec.) is not yet supported.  :'(

Just noticed that self-reference can now be changed in size :)

That really looks cool when you change the line type to Bezier.   ;D

I've been playing with statecharts myself.  The stateflow properties window is extended to include some new information.  I have not figured out what the difference is between the transition and transition name (its not documented and the UML 2.1 Specs don't help), but I seem to be able to get what I need on the diagrams.

The Bezier line style on transitions is nice, now I can draw curved lines;  however, there is only one control point.  It would be nice to be able to add more points similar to the "bend line at cursor" feature on custom lines.  (I like to draw little "S" curves.)

They have fixed the problem with self-referential transitions; I can make them big enough for the text that describe them.  That works real good;  the bezire feature is not working on this yet.

When I edit a statechart that already has some previously added transitions when I open the project, and then I close EA with out saving the changes;  when I reopen the project some of the original, unmodified transitions lines are lost.

So far, just some cosmetic problems.  I like the new stuff.

FWIW:  I'm still waiting (hopefully) for a fix on the reflexive association issue.  I hope the EA product isn't getting too large for them to support properly.
