General Board / Re: WMF stereotype not showing on diagram
« on: April 06, 2006, 11:37:35 pm »
Hi all,

now I have build 789 but still I can't assign an alternate image to an action. Same for Stereotypes with Alternate Images.

The upper works fine with activities and lots of other elements.

any ideas?

I create printable diagram files with FreePDF XP and GhostScript, which I deliver together with the rtf-docs.

Claude, depending on your team members and their geografical distibution it might be usefull to work with locks. You can lock one or more elements, a diagram or even one or more packages with its sub-packages and all of the contained elements. Editing with locks can be mandatory or not. In addition working with locks depends on the version control tool you are using.

From Unified Modeling Language: Superstructure:

11 Actions
11.1 Overview
Basic Concepts
An action is the fundamental unit of behavior specification. An action takes a set of inputs and converts them into a set of outputs, <....>

You can download the UML specification at OMGs for free. Chapter 11 answers your question (though it's a bit cumbersome on the first view).

The RTF-Generator is sometimes queer. Try to add some Newlines in your template and see if your problem still exists. If it is solved, you can size the paragraph-markers to point 4 or try to hide them (ctrl-h). If not, just tell me and I'll have a closer look tomorrow -- or s.o. else.

select a paragrapf and assign a style from "heading 1" to "heading 9" (You should create a new template based on a given one like (basic template) first, then <edit current>)

hi per,
in the "document options" you can set the "adjust heading levels" to "none" or any other heading level.

if you use build 785 try 781

in the template editor: <file>, <document options>. There you find the same generation options frame, but these options are saved with your template.

I never uninstalled EA before installing the new version. This is done by the installation process.

General Board / Re: Vertical and horizontal swimlanes at the same

As I mentioned above:
<...> But how can I say, that "Ship order" belongs to "Order processor" AND "Reno"? <...>

Painting a matrix is easy anyway, but how to assign an element to two different and independent (and not hierachical) partitions???

General Board / Re: Vertical and horizontal swimlanes at the same

you posted an interesting question. As sargasso said, swimlanes are replaced by activitypartitions, which have a wider semantic than just org.-units.

Anyway, I took a look at the UML2-specification from OMG (UML Superstructure version 2.0 formal/05-07-04) and now I wonder how a partition matrix as shown an page 334 figure 12.61 can be obtained in EA. E.g.: I can design, that "Order processor" containes "Seattle" and "Reno" and that "Receive order" in inside "order processor" and therefore inside "Seattle". But how can I say, that "Ship order" belongs to "Order processor" AND "Reno".

Hope someone has the answer.....?

PS.: I did talk about activity diagrams but I presume that the behavior in BPM is the same.

Supports BPM, but not UML. More info at: See also: (search for "mega")

ARIS Toolset is the very best tool you can get for BPM. However, it has two major disadvantages:
  • it's not really usefull for software development (if you are thinking of this), though it supports UML 1.4
  • the price.
