Hi

I know the frustration you are going through, after using EA for more than 15 years and training users on EA in the corporate world.
I decided to publish my eBook, it gives you some inside about UML and how to create a BRD with Use Cases, Activity Diagram, etc.
Check it out.

Happy reading.

Hi

Use right click Copy/Paste -> Copy to Clipboard -> Full Structure for Duplication, then delete the old one.

I have never used EA Numbering, what I can tell you what have worked for me in 15 years as a BA/TA is that I have a naming convention for the requirements, use cases, classes, etc.

I am telling you this because in an enterprise where you have different users using EA can be confusing, and even for a single user you have to plan to be consistent in your documentation.

In my eBook UML-ERP Workshop with EA, I have a whole chapter dedicated to Hints on Naming, Color Schemes, Use Cases, Activity Diagrams, etc.

Hey Guys

I know that EA will NOT work with Alternate within an alternate, but there is a way to go around this.
1. Create you alternate
2 .generate the use case
3. copy the alternate A needed
4. Go to the other alternate in EA
5. go to last step of the alternate A
6. copy the alternate B in the Description Tab of use case
7. Highlight the alternate B in the Description Tab
8. Right click
9. Select: Create Structured from Notes
10. Select: New Lines Delimited
11.Voila, alternate B will be copied completely at the end of alternate A, step by step.

I know that is a lot of steps, but sometimes you have to be creative in EA.

Is also explained in steps in my eBook

Uml Process / Re: Organizing Use Cases
« on: March 02, 2019, 06:24:20 am »
Hi Acalbaza

Just like both Gurus said you have to link the <<include>> and <<extend>> steps in the use case.
1) Right click at the step
2) Link Step to Use Case
3) Search for the Use Case
4) Save.

When generating the Test Case it will mention the test case to open and execute, it will not generate the steps for the include, invoke or extend because these belong to another use case, see here in page 186 of my eBook:
4. System displays the Inventory BOS03 -Add Mode
5. <extend> UIM02.01 Information Tab
6 ...

The User performing the test case will have to go the other test case UIM02.01 Information Tab Test case to test it.

Check my eBook for further informationon use cases and test cases.

General Board / UML ERP Workshop published 5 eBooks
« on: December 18, 2018, 08:53:51 am »
Hi All

UML - ERP Workshop - Writing a Business Requirement Document (BRD with) Enterprise Architect

After several years updating the eBook I have decided to divide the BRD in functional section with new prices, each section will cover a different part: (1) the Processes covers the transaction processes, (2) the Maintenance covers the data entry, (3) the Report covers how to run reports and finally, the (4) Settings covers how to set up parameters for a system. If you still want all of them together you can still get the (5) Full BRD.

(1) https://leanpub.com/umlerpworkshop-process-brd

(2) https://leanpub.com/umlerpworkshop-maintenance-brd

(3) https://leanpub.com/umlerpworkshop-report-brd

(4) https://leanpub.com/umlerpworkshop-settings-brd

(5) https://leanpub.com/uml-erpworkshop

These 5 books helps you design an application with the UML (Unified Modeling Language) modeling tool, Enterprise Architect. It shows you how to write a Business Requirement Document (BRD) using a real-life Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, an application with 20 years in the market.

Thanks all for your support.

General Board / Re: Multi-language model
« on: November 14, 2018, 02:15:41 am »
Hi All

I did this 15 years ago with my system Zeta Pro, which is multi-lingual.
I have 3 languages Spanish, English and Portuguese and is user driven, in other words when the user is setup we select the language.
This system is data driven, meaning that all screens, all reports, and so on have all 3 languages in different tables with 3 columns (one per language), when the user selects the menu he is selecting the option key and the system based on the user displays the screen.

At the beginning because we had to replenish all the columns we came up with a special screen for the Subject Matter Expert (SME) user to fill in the columns, we only did completed the English column and the 2 SME did it the other 2 languages.

One problem that we came into this, is that the data input will have to be in only 1 language, so the user can see the screen in the language he selected but the entry could be in another language.

In EA we only have Alias for 1 language, all screens labels are fixed in the code, so I really don't know how can this be accomplished in EA.
My 2 cents.

Yes, is called DB Mode and is a very good add on for EA Data Modeling.

Hi wmather

Sorry to hear about your negative posts and thanks for letting me know.
Now that I know that you understand ERP it should be very easy for you to follow the eBook.
ERP system are complex systems and tried my best for the reader to follow it.

The eBook explains how to set up EA repository for one functional module or more of an ERP system.
It also explains step by step how to create a requirement diagram, a use case with all it's path, linking
requirement to use cases and more. Followed the SOP writing process.
All these steps above make reference to specific placeholder of the generated output.

All the naming convention, use case hints, activity diagram hints, color scheme hints and all other hints
are my personal preferences that I have gathered in my 25 years of experience in the IT industry
and 15 years using EA, hopping they will be very helpful.

As you said there are not "some hidden gems", but a lot of hidden gems in the document and I tried to show them the best I can.
If you need any help do not hesitate to contact me, and I will be very happy to point them out.
Any feedback to make the eBook better are always welcome, you can contact me directly to [email protected].

Thanks Roy for your kind words, but I tried to give the reader a simple way to follow EA after they have had
some practice or used EA and looked at the Help files.

Hi

Thanks for your kind words.
Inventory Control TDD is a work in Progress, soon the first release will be published.
This TDD will be a short version, not as big as the BRD.
