General Board / Importing a Glossary from Excel
« on: July 20, 2012, 12:57:58 am »
Hi All

I have being given the task to upload a spreadsheet (excel) with 80 rows of pre-defined glossary definitons into EA Glossary.

What is the best way to do this and how.
I see ways to import elements  and so on, but not Glosary elements.

General Board / Re: Document Generation Template - Element Diagram
« on: April 19, 2013, 01:14:38 am »

Took a peak at your document and yes you can insert any class before the other ones, it all depend on the Project Browser order and how you adapt your tempate from the EA basic template.

In generated documents the order of the elements is based on the order you have them in the project browser.

Which of the basic templates are you  running?

General Board / Re: Mainframe UML - Where Is It?
« on: April 17, 2013, 02:11:34 am »
Hi Dana

You an use EA to model Mainframe applications.

Just start creating your Use Cases and Activity Diagrams so you can get familiar with EA and UML. And go from there to different diagrams like Deployment and maybe Components.

My 2 cents

The most simple way is to tag them all with the shift key and then drag them all to the Use case.

make it simple, just create another project or another Repository if using SQL.

General Board / Numbering in different Templates
« on: March 01, 2013, 02:42:05 am »
We create documents based on the Master Template.

We add different Document packages and the Master Document calls all the other packages and all works perfect even with a "Table of Contents" refering all other packages.

The only issue I have now is trying to number across different Master Documents, if we can have a "Table of Contents" across Masters documents, why the numbering across is not working.
Would like to add a numbering across packages, but sometimes not all the packages have a reference to print.

Any hint?

General Board / Re: Printing Use Cases (rather than the diagram)

That is not difficult to do, Create a new template and copy it from the "Use Case template" or the "Use case Scenatio template", which ever you decide.

Now select the template you created and un-tag the Diagram from the left section. you will see that the following section is gone, save you template and you are done.

General Board / Traceability between Classes - Tables - UI
« on: February 09, 2013, 04:24:33 am »

I have already mapped the traceability between Classes and Tables with no problem, by connecting -> link to element feature and it works great, the only problem I have is trying to display this in a document, not in the diagram but in the section of attributes and operation in the document.
Nice could be that I can show the link into what element of the table.
If anyone knows what to do here, highly appreciated to inform me.

Second questions is how can we have traceability between Tables and UI elements. Graphically is the same way, but is not a nice way to display. Is there another way of doing this?

Thanks ins advace

You might have in the Diagram -> Divide Diagram into Multiple Pages.

Click on the Diagram Property - Diagram Tab:
Uncheck Divide Diagram into Multiple Pages.
Hope this helps.

General Board / Re: Document a package reference
« on: February 02, 2013, 09:18:24 am »

If I really undestand what you want to can create, you can accomplish this with a Master Document (Document Diagram) with 3 Model Document, and drop in each package (containing your elements)  what you want to print. There is a little bit more work than this but I think you can do this in EA.

General Board / Deleting Images > 1 from the Image Manager
« on: January 09, 2013, 02:15:44 am »
When you select Appearance -> Select Alterante Image or Ctrl+Shift+ W on a Diagram element you get the Image Manager.

This Image Manager has more than 500 images and need to delete arround 400 of those and I don't see how to to delete more than one from here. Is there any command or script taht I can use to do this.

Thanks in advance

General Board / Imporitng a new OOP language not listed
« on: November 27, 2012, 08:13:01 am »
Hi all,

I would like to import a new OOP (Object Oriented Programming) Language not listed in the Source Code Engineering like C, C# and all others. Also would like to generate code to another one also not listed, like Ruby or any other.

What would be the process. I see that I can add a new language and create new code template for this language.

My question is, how can import the code to create classes and so on, if when creating the new language there is no place to add the extension of the language.

Also do I have to use the Import Source Directory to do this, I see that I can change the extension but not the source type. How will EA know what templates to use or what extension of the file to look for.
Any help on this will be appreciated.
