Suggestions and Requests / Re: Java enums with implements
« on: June 22, 2005, 11:55:07 pm »
Thanks, Simon !

I'm working in Test/Validation ATM so I have a higher than usual sensitivity to the subject !

Looks like changes in language requirements need a better feed into the specification and testing regime.
Keep an eye on that !!

This rather worries me that a test suite is not being applied to EA before release of a new version.

Assuage my fears !? Simon ??

(shut up, Paolo ! ;-)

... Unless they have Future Plans to use it again ...

Thanks for that - but why doesn't Sparx use the Future Plans forum any more - some of those points could usefully have been posted there.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Close tab on double-click
« on: May 12, 2005, 02:07:30 am »
Alternatively, an [X] icon/button on each tab could allow closing of the tab in a well-defined, standard way.

I used to be a fan of the Windows ::) Interface Guideline standard  - Lotus Notes :'( is what you get if you don't follow some well-established rules !

I would like to see the ability for class operations to contain activity diagrams
It seems that UML mainly considers activities to be relevant for Analysis/high-level rather than Design/implementation ...?
Activity diagrams are used to model the behaviours of a system, and the way in which these behaviours are related in an overall flow of the system

Suggestions and Requests / Re: ECore creation from class diagrams

"The next release of EMF will work with and support standard EMOF XMI model definitions. "

So if EA eventually adds support for OMG MOF, XMI will allow models to be interchanged ...

But the same article also says: "EMF provides its own meta-model, called Ecore, ...; an XMI serializer for persisting models; tools for transforming model forms like UML, XML Schema and simple annotated Java interfaces into Ecore" which suggests that transformations and use of XMI may already be possible.

Sorry, I haven't used EMF, I'm just quoting articles !!

Thought I'd give you some extra ammo !

I have always thought this type of policy short-sighted, since you then do not have a checkpointed version under review.

If there are any issues, an update will be required under either scheme in any case, so why not check in the version being reviewed in the first place.

Then, any issues being raised are with reference to a documented version.

But opinions do differ !

<voice of Homer Simpson> "mmmm ....! EA 5.0 ....!"

Much as there is a list of 'most recent' models on the EA start page. it would be convenient if there was a dropdown list of models in the Tools - Data management -  Data Transfer dialog.

This would then avoid having to reconstruct the database connection details, when EA has them to hand already.

I don't think that number (or guruness) of supporters is the deciding factor - if you've presented your case well and the Sparx guys'n'gals see it to be a good feature, then they'll consider it.

I'm sure they read all the issues posted here, and shouting or nagging won't make any difference ;-)

Well, that's the basis I work on anyhow ...
