Suggestions and Requests / EA11 - Anything in the wishlist implemented?
« on: February 10, 2014, 11:44:38 pm »
The wishlist thread is here

I was just wondering if anything that was asked for has been implemented.   Lots of changes/enhancements in the release notes, so it's not just a bugfix release, but have the users been listened to at all ?

One small thing that doesn't appear to have made it is making diagram filters diagram specific instead of being global  :-[

Suggestions and Requests / Request a feature
« on: January 17, 2013, 05:35:57 am »
I just submitted a formal feature request, and saw this:

"Sparx have an established history of listening to their users, and working to build the most flexible and capable tool for a wide range of uses."

Based on irritated comments in the forum about longstanding bugs, usability issues and useful suggestions that have fallen on deaf ears and been outstanding for years, you'd have to ask whether that statement is true.   :-/

Suggestions and Requests / Diagram Filter to be a property of a diagram
« on: January 11, 2013, 04:23:33 am »
The diagram filters, useful as they are, appear to be global to a model.  Once you select a filter, it applies to all diagrams in your model.  I'd like to have one diagram, shallow copied a number of times, and then highlight different aspects based on a different filter for each diagram.

As the diagram filtering is carried forward to the HTML output (and may be document generation), this would be a useful feature.

Best case would be the ability for a filter still to be global, but for a diagram specific filter to override any global filters set.

Suggestions and Requests / Forward engineer for Android ?

As Android is Java based, is it reasonable to request support for a Platform Specitic Model (PSM) for it via forward engineering ?

Suggestions and Requests / Capture requirements from Microsoft Word
« on: March 25, 2010, 09:51:39 pm »
The Sparx Systems Japan product,  RAQuest,  has a nice feature whereby in MS-Word you can highlight some text, right-click on the mouse and choose from the context menu to register the highlighted text as a requirement in RAQuest (and therefore in the EA model you are working on as RAQuest works on top of a standard EA model).  If you highlight 2 paragraphs in Word, the first is used as the name/title for the requirement element and the second populates the notes.

Does anyone agree this should be a core feature in EA rather than in an add-in ?

Suggestions and Requests / Project Constants
« on: November 03, 2009, 11:38:26 pm »
I think it would be very useful to have the project constants that can be defined for RTF document production available throughout the whole model.  Anyone agree ?

Suggestions and Requests / DDL to manage a changing schema
« on: November 21, 2005, 07:02:48 am »
Unless I've missed something (highly possible), EA is great for generating the scripts necessary to set up your database schema for the first time,  but then nowhere near as good at managing ongoing changes to the schema from that point forward.

If this is the case, please add the functionaity to baseline the schema and generate scripts that will modify an existing schema as necessary based on differences between the current schema and the baseline.

This would be fantastic for maintenance projects.

Suggestions and Requests / Element Browser - Going to properties dialogue
« on: January 28, 2008, 02:58:51 am »
Double clicking on an aspect of an element in the element browser (e.g. attributes) simply takes you to the standard default properties pane - it would be much better if this opened but you were taken to the relevant tab/section of the properties based on what you clicked on in the first place.

Suggestions and Requests / Test Plan Production for practical use
« on: August 22, 2006, 01:51:20 am »
I have been trying to produce a test plan report which can essentially be used to execute an actual system test, where the test will simulate the business processes/activities.

Part of the requirement for this therefore is to be able to output the tests defined for elements within the EA model in the sequence flow order shown in activity/analysis diagrams.   However I can't seem to achieve this which means the practicality of running a test using EA information is heavily undermined.

I've tried 2 routes.  One is the "testing report" on the Project/Documentation menu which helps up to a point - I can select all "system" tests for example,  however the sort order of this report is not clear to me but seems to be project browser tree order (which isn't the same as activity diagram sequence flow).   I've also tried the RTF report generator,  but this seems to constrain you to sorting either in tree order, or date/name order.

Please add a feature to produce practical test plans that match the flow of defined business processes.

Many thanks

Suggestions and Requests / Status types on elements other than requirements
« on: February 16, 2006, 08:52:44 am »
On requirements and issues the shape of the symbol has the thin strip to the left which is used to display the status type colour coding on diagrams for the status of the element, and with everything set up properly this works a treat.

However, if you try to use the same method to show the status of say, Use Cases or Packages,  the colour coding is not obvious because it only appears on the shadow stroke.   I'd like to request that the shadow fill is also used for the colour coding to make it more obvious.

Suggestions and Requests / Discussion forum links
« on: January 26, 2006, 02:21:23 am »
It would be useful to be able to search the discussion forum for specific elements that may have been linked to a thread.   Unless I've missed something there's no way to find out if an element has been referred to (and linked) in a discussion.     Should these links appear in "Show other references" for an element ?

Suggestions and Requests / Notes on diagrams
« on: December 06, 2005, 01:55:21 am »
I see in version 6 of EA that if you float the mouse over an element in a diagram, a tooltip/hint appears which includes at least the start of the element's notes field.   This is useful up to a point, but not on hardcopies of the diagram.

From time to time I find myself duplicating the contents of an element's notes field within a note item on the diagram to emphasize certain attributes or simply for clarity.   It would be VERY useful not to have to duplicate this text but have the option of having the note on the diagram take the text from the notes of a particular element.

General Board / Keystore Service system requirements...
« on: June 25, 2014, 02:23:34 am »
On this page

the following is stated :
"System requirements for Sparx Systems Keystore Service
Enterprise Architect, version 8 or later
10 MB Disk Space
Operating System: Windows 2000/XP Service Pack 2/Vista/7"

which seems a bit out of date. So what about later and SERVER versions of Windows?
Anyone any idea what is supported?

General Board / ISO 20022
« on: May 15, 2014, 09:38:16 pm »
Has anyone had any positive experience of using EA for the ISO 20022 standard?  It looks on the surface as though EA should be able to handle this as the standard is based on a UML model and XML formats.

I'm also interested to hear if anyone has succeeded in importing external UML models for ISO 20022 into EA.

General Board / Build 1010
« on: January 30, 2014, 09:56:44 pm »
4 months since build 1009,  but this latest one has very few changes/fixes based on the release notes, in comparison with what we usually see.   Should we be disappointed or is it an indication that version 11 has all the big enhancements and is just around the corner?
