Unfortunately you can't run a shapescript without a stereotype...

...that bit is in the manual...  ;D

Can I apply a Shapescript without using Stereotypes?

(from the EA manual!)

General Board / Re: Tagged values in CSV export, how?

Hi there,

Can I suggest that you take a look at the new, sneak peak of Time Architect 2.0? available from

This version includes improved grid functionality that lets you add tagged values to the grid as columns.

You can then use these to help filter and sort your elements.

Time Architect also includes export to Excel functionality (with or without notes) which exports the contents of the datagrid directly to .xls format.  From this you can then convert to CSV (if you need to).

It also adds lots of other functionality too - take a look around the website for full details...

I think that you should find that this does exactly what you are looking for!

The fully functional evaluation version lasts 20 days so this should give you a chance to fully try it!  It is still at the special introductory price of $100 - so give it a try...

We have just released the sneak peak of version 2.0 that includes element move functionality.

With this you can select elements from anywhere in your model (via the grid interface) and move those elements to a different package/diagram or you can just copy the elements straight to a diagram.

It also adds lots of other functionality too - take a look around the website for full details...

Dear all,

Solutions Reality are pleased to announce that Time Architect 2.0 is coming soon (January 2008) - for an overview of the new features please see:

For those of you that think Time Architect is only for Project Managers, we invite you to have a read of some of the new features which include the ability to work with multiple elements:

and improvements to the datagrid that means that you can now work with Tagged Values as columns of the datagrid:

For those of you using Time Architect for Project Management, we have added a new review column making it simple to focus on the tasks that need attention NOW:

For those that can't wait there is a 'sneak peak' version available for download that features most of the new features:

Please be aware, this sneak peak does not include the Virtual Machine functionality - this will be in the full release of 2.0 in January 2008!

Why not take a look at it today...?

Dear all,

we are finalising version 1.2 of Time Architect and it will be entering testing soon prior to an expected release next week (during the week beginning 3rd December).

1.2 adds a number of key features to the tool including a review column that allows you see the tasks that need attention. It clearly shows the tasks that are late, those that are finished, due to start or end etc.

In addition it adds the ability to manipulate many tasks/EA elements at the same time updating both resource information and EA values.

We are now starting to plan version 1.3 (using Time Architect of course ;D) what we would like to know is what you would like to see in this release?

We know that people are downloading TA, we know that some of you are buying TA and a few of you are discussing with us about TA - Thank you!

What we would like to know is:
 • What is it you like about TA?
 • What is it that you don't?
 • If you have bought it - what made you decide to buy?
 • If you have decided not to buy - why not? What is it missing?
 • What do you really need to see in TA before you decide to buy it?

If you are not happy to add your comments here then please feel free to add your comments on the Solutions Reality forum at alternatively, contact us through the form on the Time Architect site.

Thank you in anticipation of your help.

General Board / Re: UPDATED! - Time Architect - v1.1 Released

Time Architect v1.1 Released!
Solutions Reality are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Time Architect version 1.1.

Time Architect version 1.1 adds the following features:
Quick Chart mode
The optional Quick Chart mode allows the creation of Gantt and project information from any UML model in EA!
By automatically allocating a duration based on element complexity/difficulty and assigning a resource (labelled 'unknown') to any elements without a resource assigned, Time Architect is able to help you sketch out the scope of the project and kick start the project planning and management processes.

Please note:  even in Quick Chart mode, TA only saves the data back to EA when you ask it to, allowing you to quickly and easily see what has to be done, without changing anything in EA!

Export to Microsoft Excel mode
As well as exporting to CSV, Time Architect now provides a full export to Microsoft Excel format.  This can export the contents of the data grid out to Microsoft Excel format and optionally can pick up the notes from all elements exported.

Improved Grid functions
As well as increasing the available columns (see below).  We have also improved the functionality of the Grid to allow pinning of columns.

Increased Columns in data grid
TA now shows the following additional columns in the data grid:
 • Type
 • Stereotype
 • Difficulty / Complexity
 • Priority
 • Status
 • Phase
 • Version
 • Modified

All of which can be used for filtering, sorting and grouping your element data.

Minor Bug fixes
A number of minor bug fixes to issues identified since the previous release.

User Guide Improvements
As well as documenting the new features we have made a number of improvements to the User Guide.  This includes a section on how to link and unlink tasks.

Download Now...
Download your copy of version 1.1 from today and see the new intro movie too!

We welcome your feedback either through the contact form on the TimeArchitect site - or break the ice and talk to us via the forum at - see you there!

We've added some images to show some of what Time Architect can do inside of EA.  The colours are fully customisable - we wanted something that would stand out! ;D

So far the (off-line) feedback has been good...  We invite your commments!

Catch, the makers of Screen Architect have a 2 day Symposium in New Zealand with Sparx at the end of the week, so maybe there will be some new announcements?

It is an interesting tool but looking forward to the next version...

General Board / Re: PMBOK and EA ?
« on: November 27, 2007, 08:49:22 am »

Glad you think TA is an interesting development...

...all I can say is keep watching TA!  ;D

We believe that the plans for TA will answer many of your hopes!

The email integration should be coming along soon...

As for some of the other stuff - we are working through some designs at the moment for how we can really turn EA and TA into a very clever management tool!

Not forgetting the clever stuff it can do for modellers too (of course!) ;D

Best regards,

General Board / Re: PMBOK and EA ?
« on: November 27, 2007, 04:37:58 am »

you raise some very interesting points and the PMBOK certainly is a document that deserves some serious consideration.  From the initial skim reading, I am not sure that I can call it interesting though  :) !

Solutions Reality has recently released Time Architect available from and listed on the EA 3rd party products page here  We have already picked up the Resources tab in EA and built a tool that is capable of working with the fields in this tab but as 'live' fields not as 'dead text fields' as you mention.

For example, start date, duration, end date and time expended now have real meaning and true time calculations can now be performed accordingly.

From these fields you can now draw a fully interactive Gantt chart that is tied into the resource panel and the rest of EA.  This means that when you allocate durations to an element, its end date is calculated based on the working day length, duration, vacations of the resource etc - before being passed back to EA.  In addition, dependencies between elements are taken into consideration to help calculate element start dates etc.

This in turn ties into an advanced data grid that allows you to filter and manage the tasks - and therefore the EA elements that have become tasks.  From this grid it is easy to see which tasks are finished, late starting, late ending, due to start and more.

As Time Architect runs inside EA, the tight integration means that it is just a simple click on the Gantt chart or the grid to get to the appropriate EA element to get the true context of the task.  Likewise, clicking on an element in EA will highlight that element in the Gantt chart or grid so you can clearly see its context in the project lifecycle.

It is our intention to continue developing TA to become a fully rounded Project Management tool that sits over EA and works with all of the appropriate EA fields and brings true meaning to these areas of EA.  We have a number of ideas of how this can be achieved, but welcome input from others as to what they would want out of such a tool.

We are currently working on version 1.2 of TA (we are trying to keep the release cycle short at the moment to allow input from our users into the development of the tool).  1.1 added the review functionality as mentioned above.  1.2 will add the ability to work on multiple tasks/EA elements at the same time - updating not only the resource information but key EA data too.

We will digest the contents of the PMBOK and see what can be added from this book and onto the roadmap for future development.

Anyone who is interested in Time Architect can download a fully functional 20 day evaluation version from the website.

Best regards,

General Board / Time, Resource and Project Management in EA

 • Are you using EA for time calculations?
 • Are you using EA for resource management?
 • Are you using the project management capabilities in EA?
 • Do you wish there was an easy way to extract information from EA to MS Project?
 • Would you like to be able to quickly report on unallocated tasks?
 • Would you like to easily check and report on the overall status of tasks in EA?
 • Do you wish that you could quickly and  easily draw gantt charts live in EA from your models?
 • What if you could do all of these tasks(and more) now live inside EA?

Solutions Reality are currently finalising the development of an add-in for EA that already offers all these features (and more are planned for future releases).

Time Architect (for EA) is currently in private beta.  We will be announcing more details in the next few days but we are interested, by a quick 'show of hands' (reply below), the level of interest from the forum users.

Thanks for your help...
