I'll happily second this request.

I'm currently using the clumsy "or returns an error" construct in the TEXT of alternative flows, where really I should be able to define an exception.

I've looked at the include and extend, but this is a bit heavy handed by comparison.

Suggestions and Requests / Use Case Editor: Automatically Highlight classes
« on: February 22, 2010, 11:13:41 am »
Hi team,

I understand that you have extended functionality in the Use Case editor in release 8.0 to automatically highlight items that appear in the project glossary.

This is a very useful function, and I wonder if you could extend this behaviour to recognising classes in the domain model?

In our Use Cases, we keep the Basic and Alternative flows as simple as possible by referring to details in the domain model as follows:

The system displays a method to enter Search Criteria

Search Criteria would be defined as a class on the domain model, showing the expected sub-types of search criteria, each with its own distinct attributes etc.

This means that the Use Cases are very easy to read, without having to wade through details which are already defined in the domain.

Sorry Roy, in 12.1 it really doesn't.

I searched for 'red triangle' in the application, and it flicked to a web search:

Search Results
Your search for 'red, triangle' found the following documents (of 2574 documents searched):
Displaying documents 1-6 of 6, with best matches first:

No mention of red triangle in the return.

Part of the problem is every EA version's of help seems to be on the website and the only reliable way to put bounds on your search is to search through the application.

Yep. I've just tried searching for the red things in 12.1 and I just can't find it in the help, via any method.

I must have missed an option to install the help locally.

So far, none of my efforts at RegEx etc. has assisted in searching the online help either.

For example, searching for " red " (spaces either side in case that's not visible) still returns every word containing red.

The search utility is stripping everything out of the search query.

I can see that I'm going to spend a lot more of my time explaining things to users.

May I second the suggestion of a user maintained help wiki?

That is pretty funny.

Just searching for "red" works...

It returns:
Exclamation Mark
Letter A
Letter T
Object Outline
Package Icon Corner
Triangle, In Model Search Results

"Where is KnowledgeWare (IEW/ADW) and Popkin Software (System Architect) today.

I can't help you with the others, but Popkin System Architect is currently called IBM Rational System Architect.

We have the rather humourous IMHO situation here where we develop System Architecture models in Enterprise Architect and
Enterprise Architecture models in System Architect.

I'm occasionally required to do the latter, but prefer EA to SA.

I don't want to be Dogmatix about this, but I'm certain that he fell into a cauldron when he was a baby...

The printer driver doesn't have to be for your existing printer.

Install a printer driver that contains the page size you want.

When you print the diagram, select your REAL printer, page size remains the same.

Add a printer driver (as qwerty suggests) for example an HP Plotter.

Then you have a huge range of potential page sizes.

I use the driver for HP DesignJet T790ps 44 inch PS3.

While we are griping...

We have vehicles, covered with livery (lights, sirens, checkered stripes etc).

They are referred to as "fleets".

As in, grab a couple of "fleets" from the pool for Saturday morning...

Not kidding, one fleet, two fleets. (Drives me crazy.)

If that's not bad enough, this organisation has preserved a somewhat archaic meaning of "duplicitous"...

Around here, duplicitous means doing something twice, with no intention of implying that something is underhanded.

But, I would really, really like an extra column in the glossary, where the user gets to provide an alias for a term.

and while we're talking about the vagaries of the English  language, a topic that is dear to my heart...

Pea (the vegetable) is a back formation from Pease (the plant) which now has a plural peas (the vegetable), and the plant itself is now also called pea. The back-formation occurred because people mistakenly thought that pease was the plural for the little green balls...

But, back on topic, an extra field, which allowed synonyms for a term to be recorded by the user would really help!

Ctrl-Click to deselect doesn't alsways work.
I'm still not sure when it works and when it doesn't. :-/

I think that this may occur when something transparent is in the foreground...

Right-click on the offending element and choosing "Z Order" then "send to bottom" seems to take away that kind of behaviour for me.

Or select-all (Ctrl-A) then de-select the lane, by holding down the control key and clicking into empty space within the lane.
