Screen Size and Delete Function
« on: January 23, 2006, 11:33:24 am »
Hi There,

I was wondering if there was a simple way to adjust the size of the main screen without having to use the zoom out / in feature or hiding the views.

I just find it a little frustrating having to scroll and zoom in and out all the time.

For example, would it be possible by double clicking on the screen title tab that the diagram opens up in a larger window or have the abilty to type in what size you want to view the screen (like in word you can adjust the size from anywhere between 10% and 400%).

Also, I'd like to know if I'm doing someting wrong when I want to delete elements from my diagrams - I have to do it within the project view (there is no shortcut detailed).  If I click on the element on the diagram I can delete it using the short cut CTRL D but it doesn't remove it from the project view.  Am I missing something? I have my screens contained within a package, is this the issue?

Apologies if these functions are there - I'm a new user and I can't see anything in the help that is relevant.

Thanks
Gary

The fastest way to zoom a diagram in and out is by using the mouse wheel.

Hold the Control (CTRL) key and use the mouse wheel to Zoom in and out.

If you don't have a mouse wheel, there are no defined shortcuts for Zoom in and out. However, you can map some for yourself from within EA.

Tools -> Customise -> Keyboard(Tab at top)

From here you should be able to define your own shortcuts to Zoom in and out quickly.

The reason is because you are deleting the elements from a diagram, not a model.

In the Project Browser, you are deleting an element from the entire model. One model may contain many diagrams, so when you delete an element from a diagram, it is only deleted from that one diagram, not the entire model.

Hi!

But the problem is when I will remove phantoms (objects that don't appear on any diagram) from project. I must each time invoke context menu. But delete is on the bottom of list. It will be good, if there were a shortcut to do it faster.

Hello KrzychoE,

Please try following key combination:

Ctrl+DEL (for both elements in diagram and Project Browser)
---> delete the element from entire model
DEL (for elements in diagram)
---> remove the element from current diagram

Ctrl+DEL is useful because you can delete multiple
items after selecting items in Project Browser
by using Ctrl+click or Shift+click (like common Windows
operation)

Hope this helps,

In addition to t-kuono's reply: If you drag multiple elements to a dummy package you can delete the latter (with ctrl-d) and will be asked only once. Useful if you have many elements and don't want to confirm each single one.

...but bear in mind that you can't currently delete a package in 6.1 using ctrl-delete on a diagram...nothing happens...seems like a bug that needs fixing?

I'm fairly sure that's intentional. When you delete a package, you are deleting a whole branch of the project tree. This is quite a major undertaking so you should probably only be allowed to do it in the Project View where you get a clearer view of the impact of your deletion.

Could I request to have a system option to determine if I'm allowed to delete packages and all contained info from the model directly from the diagram. There have been several instances recently where this would have been useful to do directly from a diagram.

I'd call it an excuse. If you Ctr-Del an element you're asked anyway for confirmation. So what's the difference between doing it in the diagram and the browser. Paolo seems to be a bit exhausted, so I'll shout: Consistency!
