Exporting BMPN to other systems
« on: June 11, 2008, 04:40:09 pm »
I would like to know to what extent can the BPMN exported from EA be imported to other tools arround.
I suppose the question is: is the xmi for the export of bpmn standardised sufficiently that I might reasonable expect a competent other tool to be able to import it. Or will it depend lots on the other tool.
Are there any reports of successful exporting and then importing.

Does anyone know what I can expect when I try to do this?

Hi,
It depends what other tool you are using. That tool needs to have XMI import option. For example Rational Rose requires additional addins to do that.

You will also find that the XMI will be for UML, with a BPMN profile applied.

It's quite likely that the other tool won't treat it as anything other than UML.  If you're lucky it will preserve the profile, but the rendering will almost certainly be different.

If EA could export BPEL or XPDL from BPMN it would do the trick
Can EA export BPEL or XPDL for BPMN?

You could export to xmi and transform to BPEL or XPDL via xsl. Lots of work though. Could be wortth a feature request: Sparx would probably profit if they could advertise that EA can export BPEL and XPDL.
