Project Name in RTF Export
« on: July 16, 2009, 10:44:28 pm »
Hi, I'm currently evaluating the trial version for our company. On importatnt thing is the document export. I'm trying to get one of the most basic things necessary for documentation: The Project name. I can't figure out how to insert the project name into a rtf template. The I renamed the model to the name of project, but I also could not insert the model name.

Any suggestion how to do that?

Anyway, I'm having a hard time trying to use out companies tamplate and add EA tags. I keeps distroying my formatting/style applied to the text.
Is there any whitepaper that explaines everything that can be done and maybe an overview about all categories and tags that are available?

Thanks,

Jan

This question pops up ever once in a while. In build 846 there is a new feature to let you insert custom project related fields but I have not played around with those. Please try and share your experience, this is encouraged.

For a whitepaper see this one: http://www.sparxsystems.com/downloads/whitepapers/Working_with_the_RTF_generator.pdf

Thanks for your reply!

I read this before when I was searching the forum. But how exactly can I use this new feature? I don't know where I can set these custom fields and how to include it within the template!

Thanks,

Jan

In the template editor under document options and in the document generation dialog there is a tab labelled "Project Constants" where you can fill out those custom tags.
Those can be imported and exported so exchanging them is possible.

However I have no best practises available on how to use those. This is a new feature.

Thanks!

Ok, in the generation dialog, I found the tab and entered the Project name. But in the document options in the editor I couldn't find it. And I do have build 846.

Ok,

I can answer this by myself:

As Oliver described,
- go to the RTF export dialog
- search for the Project Constants tab
- Add your stuff, e.g. ProjectName = "MyLittleProject"
- Then edit the template you want use
- Right click where you want to insert the Constant
- Click "Project Constants" and choose your key

EA will insert a new tag, in my example {ProjectName}.

I tested it and it works!

I still don't know, why the NAME OF THE PROJECT is not part of the models properties. This is so essential...  :o
