Import archimate models
« on: June 19, 2015, 05:55:18 pm »
Hi,

Does anybody knows of tools that could help in importing Archimate 2 models within EA, including views. I know of CSV export (from Archi or BizzDesign) and then importing CSV into EA but I don't know how to handle relations and there is no way to import the views. Since we have a lot of them we would have to rebuild our repository almost from scratch.
The possibility to import the OpenGroup ArchiMate Model Exchange File format would be great (Archi  and Bizzdesign already have this features). Is this planned ?

Thanks,

PPE

EA mostly does XMI import/export. Is that not supported in the other tools you mentioned?

I can imagine that Sparx will wait for the final release of the standard before implementing it in EA.

Als mentioned on the Archimate website that won't be before Q3 of 2015

We are targeting release of the standard in 3Q2015.

We do have plans to support the ArchiMate exchange format. Unfortunately, although I can see there is certainly demand for it, I can't say when that's likely to happen.

Hi,
Refer to the link below

https://www.linkedin.com/grp/post/50758-6007750426785570816?trk=groups-post-b-title

"Sharing a simple Archi - EA converter that i put up for my personal use. The attachment can be downloaded from
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gud5gyglc4k68oo/AAAXCEwKB0AAQdml_2rzYY3Ta?dl=0

The folder contains the following
* sample model with Archi objects imported

* workbook which you can use to convert Archi export into EA elements

* profile (CSV Import profile) to allow importing the EA elements in to EA

1. A Readme file

PS - the Excel Importer in 'MS Office Integration of EA' now allows one to import connectors from the Excel workbooks. (http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/mdg/int/office/office-integration.html)"

Thanks, I've tried your solutions and it looks ok to recover the objects from the archi models. Too bad the relations are not taken into account (neither does the diagrams but I didn't expect them to be imported anyway).
For big models, e.g. thousands of objects and hundreds of diagrams, I guess I'll have to wait for EA to implement the Opengroup exchange format. Maybe some Opengroup XML -> EA UML XMI ?
