Is it the custom in Australia and the USA to use 'an' instead of 'a'...

Example

To create an MDG Technology File;

To create a MDG Technology File;

I seem to remember a rule about using 'an' only if preceding a vowal; like in 'An apple' or 'An original'.

And I thought I was picky...    ;D

It was probably the Microsoft spell checker with the grammar checker turned off...  ;)

... or 'an hotel' ;)

MDG, when spoken, starts with a vowel, so 'an MDG' is correct.

EDIT: the picture didn't appear until after I'd replied. Yes, the word 'and' needs to be removed.

But it's in the plural!   ;D

By using the Technology Wizard, it is possible to create MDG Technology files which may include UML Profiles.

Capital W since it is a proper noun and 'files'  makes the sub clause plural...

Not really...

Strictly speaking - or writing, as the case may be - it would be Unified Modelling Language up here. Of course this produces all kinds of problems with spell checkers when working with 'official' documents.

Sometimes it's enough to drive me to do laundry.

Yes,  I know...

At work we've (reluctantly) adopted US spelling for "z" words like - generalize, synthesize etc..  (although in Australia BOTH forms are valid)

As W.C. Fields was want to say:  "If at first you don't succeed, try again...

...then give up.  There's no use being a d**n fool about it..."

Hi guys

Picky! Me?

Sorry, I suffer from a mild form of dyslexia, which makes me sensitive to that kind of sentence construction.  There I am, trying hard not to let my eye's wander down the page; the misplaced 'and' thoughs my ablity to retain the last couple of understood phrases, loose my place... worse it usually takes two or three attempts to catch the error point and another two to ignore 'and' read around it.  By which time, I've lost the thread.

MDG... try as I might I can't say MDG with a vowel :-[

Oh... and that should be; An 'otel

But EA's doc is far from being the worsed.  I hatfly ever read manuals; I get Sam to read them to me
