Feature request: Confirm close
« on: August 18, 2010, 09:38:53 am »
I've lost count of the times I've closed EA rather than the current diagram.

This feature request is to add a setting option for confirm on close of EA.

I respectfully disagree on this one.  I like the application close behavior just the way it is.

You can't close this application unless you have triple acknowledgement by the Pope, Mr. Balmer and Mr. Sparks.

Except that in the "EA Ecumenical" edition you have the option of substituting the religious leader of your choice for the Pope.

Paul

this would be an option, that you can enable or disable, default setting would be disable, ie the way it currently works now.

I agree with Paul, I'm getting sick of all those "are you sure you want to do this?" and "Are you REALLY sure you want to do this" kind of dialog treating me like some kind of child that doesn't know what he's doing.
YES i'm f*cking sure, just do as you're told! >:(

PS. Sorry needed to get that of my chest :-[

I don't disagree with you, its just that the screen layout makes it easy for me (perhaps it's being in the southern hemisphere) to click the bigger X (that shuts the whole thing down) that is close above the little X (that closes the diagram)
(no I'm not blaming the EAUI),
and its not compulsory to enable this option.

Maybe, instead of giving you the annoying "are you sure" dialog, they might provide a little "x" on the tab handle (just like the tabs in FireFox or IE) iso the little "x" in the right upper corner.

That would really be an improvement. (an one less option to worry about setting)

The extra X in the tab would reduce the space left for the anyway not sortable tabs. Me thinks that the Xs are separated wide enough and users having a problem here should probably buy a larger monitor.

I vote for having the option for a prompt before closing, perhaps defaulting to "do not prompt".

Different strokes fer different folks, as my grandpappy useta say. (Actually, he didn't.) But I can sympathize; I can't recall the number of times, after copying a block of text with Ctrl+C, I then mess up the paste by hitting Ctrl+C again instead of Ctrl+V. Perhaps more gifted typists rarely, if ever, make that error, but my fumbling fingers are prone to.

Fred,

Are you sure you want that option?
[Yes] [No] [Help]

This is the second last time I'm going to ask!
[OK] [Cancel] [Abort] [Exit] [Suicide]

"It is not so expressed, but what of that?
'Twere good you do so much for charity."

Oh I forgot, we aren't doing him are we.

Bruce,

Good one!

No, I don't, but others may (and we know of at least one who does). Just sayin.

I would vote for the user-settable option whether to confirm or not.  And I would hope EA would not exit if there was any unsaved work without a Yes/No/Cancel confirmation regardless of the option setting.

Personally - I have EA open for hours (if not days) at a time - I would be just as happy to remove the "X" completely and have to select File > Exit from the menu to exit.

Actually, following recent practice, the
  • could be placed on the tab.
