One click shows all relationships
« on: March 04, 2016, 12:16:15 am »
Afternoon,

I randomly stumbled on, what I consider to be, a gem in EA yesterday. I clicked on an element in my diagram and all of the related elements were highlighted, whereas all the non-related elements were 'blued' out.

Does anyone know how I can get this functionality back? It was really handy to be able to see all links/relationships.

Thanks

Yes, this is the "Context filter". You can activate it via the "funnel" icon in the diagram toolbar.

Something similarly useful is the "diagram filter", which allows you e.g. to highlight only a certain type of elements on a diagram, or elements with a certain text in the notes, or a lot of other filters.

Further to Marc's Comment,
You can also select and element and hit the 'L' key, this will highlight all incoming and out going connectors for a particular element (in red and green).

Oh man that's useful!

How long has this been around? I'm supposed to be the expert around here (the office, I mean) and I've never ever heard of it.  :-[

At least a few years now.

For more of these little gems check out Peter Doomens ebook: Fifty Enterprise Architect Tricks which by now contains more like 80 tricks or so.

I often have the impression that EA resembled a toolbox of a mad scientist. Everything is inside but finding the right tool takes longer than needed because the box contains so many "semi-useful" tools wich just confuse you or hide the ones you need. I have a dream... No. I had a dream...
