Distorted BPMN Diagram Shapes and Connectors
« on: March 15, 2017, 10:38:24 am »
Hi All,

Is anyone experiencing distorted BPMN Diagram Shapes and Connectors shapes?

I've noticed the behavior occurs when zooming in and out.

I have found myself spending a large amount of time aligning activity elements and fixing connectors to ensure the arrow heads are displaying correctly and to produce a professional looking model. Is there a way to set EA connectors to connect cleanly between elements???

Also I have noticed the gateway and end events will be a little warped/distorted when zooming in and out??

Currently using Windows 10 Build 1607 14393 and EA 13.01.1309.

Regards,

Stoppy

The first thing I'd do is change the renderer used for the diagram and see if the same thing happens.

Thanks Glassboy for the suggestion. however the renderer option does not address my issue.

Playing with the renderer option did produce a more prominent display of the issue.

It is strange, the start events looked squashed and the gateways look almost prism in some cases.

Kind regards,

Stoppy

I would log a support call with Sparx.  Tell them what renderer was worst and what display driver you're using etc.

I hope you've already got the reply from support. If you haven't, I saw your diagram and you appear to have hand-drawn mode turned on.

It can be enabled globally or for a particular diagram, but I believe that is your answer.

Thanks for the response Simon, I have received the my reference number for my issue.

I checked the setting in Ribbon: Layout > Diagram > Appearance > White Board, Hand Drawn

My setting is "Standard"

I have only just installed EA 13 on this machine out of the box as this stage.

Kind Regards,

It isn't clear whether you are talking about all diagrams or a particular diagram, and I have not seen the bug report or the Support response.  If the ribbon setting is 'Standard' then you should not be getting the effect you see across all diagrams. However, on a 'distorted' diagram right-click on the background and select 'Properties', then click on the 'Diagram' tab. See if the 'Whiteboard Mode' and/or 'Hand Drawn' options are selected for that diagram.
Best Regards, Roy

following this issue, I have seen the same.  I am using a network license via citrix, BPMN type models, not hand drawn or whiteboard. Autosize does not correct the issue, I have to delete the element from the diagram, then drop the "ghost" from the browser.

Hi Roy,

My post title is only referencing BPMN type diagram, specifically I am only using BPMN 1.1

I will pm you my reference number which as been supplied by support.

I checked the diagram properties and 'Whiteboard Mode' and/or 'Hand Drawn' are not selected.

I rolled back to EA 12.1 on the same machine and the issue still occurs.

I tried a VM with Windows 7/ EA 11.1 and the issue occurs but not as prominent.

Regards,

Stoppy

Hi all

I have found the same problems as Stoppy.

My environment: windows 10, EA 13 bulid 1310

How to reproduce "bug":
1. create/go to some BPMN "Bussines Process Diagram"
2. drag from Project Browser into diagram some element e.g. start event
As a result at first empty "Structural Elements" window appears and after pressing "Close" StartEvent element in diagram but instead circle the oval  >:(

When you drag shape from Toolbox into diagram all is OK - element looks as expected (e.g. start event looks like circle).

How to temporarily avoid the problem - instead dragging element from Project browser use option "Insert other element" from context menu of diagram.

I have documented inconsistencies between dragging from Browser and dragging from the Toolbox in other posts.

It seems to be a generic problem.

Following on from Stoppy's last post - it appears that this issue has been addressed in a future build - by making it significantly worse in EA14!

It's almost as if the "handdrawn" algorithm has been applied to erroneously to some items. Arrowheads are different sizes and shapes depending on exactly where they are, the "end" elements are almost egg shape, and scrolling the screen results in their shape changing depending on where the element is, and the data store shape appears a bit wonky, as though the lid has slipped of it...!

I'm sure this can't be purposeful, but is an issue with the rendering engine - rounding numbers in a weird way? Whatever it is, it makes my diagrams in EA14 look a lot less professional.
