Data Modeling Diagram with version control and VCE

Hello everyone,

EA Version 14.1.1427

When using a Data Modeling Diagram with version control and VCE. After making the changes in the diagram and arranging it I make a check-in.

However when doing the next check out the organization of the diagram is thus lost with the VCE used. From what I could realize this problem only occurs when I use VCE.

Virtual Connector Ends

Virtual connector ends assist you to simplify complex diagrams containing many elements with multiple connectors,
supporting good layout strategies that minimize crossed relationship lines and group related elements accordingly.

Ah, that doesn't surprise me too much. Virtual connector ends are pretty new and probably not yet fully supported in the XMI export/import.

I would simply avoid them altogether (for other reasons as well)

I recently used them to create a trace from an issue element. Of course I had to create the trace from the connector to the issue and afterwards reverse its direction (I know, I could have done it with the Quick Linker, but I didn't want to spoil my day completely).

I suspect this is another problem caused by NOT storing the VCE as a REAL diagram object in the repository.

I have argued that they should be stored as real diagram objects but categorised as VCEs.  To a simple user, the downstream benefits are legion and I can't really see any downside - but what would I know?

Ok, what are you do when do you need to design complex diagram witout cross lines?

In general? make smaller, more focused diagrams.
The occasional crossed line won't hurt much either.
