Charting and Tagged Values
« on: August 23, 2021, 09:50:48 pm »
Just want to make sure I'm not missing something.

I've been playing around with the charting capabilities - heat maps, pie charts etc..  -  but it seems that the reporting out of the box is limited to the core element attributes.  In other words using tags and their values is not supported unless you drop in to your own SQL queries?  Is that right?

Yes, no built-in support for other attributes as Tagged values etc.
Only SQL script as:

SELECT tv.Value AS Series, tv.Property as GroupName
FROM t_objectproperties tv
INNER JOIN t_object o ON o.Object_ID = tv.Object_ID
WHERE tv.Property in ('TaggedValueName')

...which is a great pity, as it's in the tagged-values where the really interesting numbers are usually found.
@Sparx can this be fixed ?

@Sparx can this be fixed ?
Asking if it can be "fixed" is a statement that you believe it is "broken". Something that I don't agree with.

Can we write a UI that allows the flexibility of SQL without writing SQL? Probably not.

Can we satisfy all our users with something less than that? No chance. (Although allowing SQL is a way that the limitations of our UI don't mean something is impossible.)

Yes, extending to tagged values to the UI would still be nice. On the other hand it's among the simplest SQL to write and still has complexities for things like multiple tags with the same name.
