Fragments / frames moving around in sequence diagrams
« on: April 21, 2008, 08:37:24 pm »
Hi,

I'm going out of my mind here. I'm creating sequence diagrams and including lots of alt, opt, seq, etc. fragments but every time I move anything they all re-organise themselves and move around the page. Also, when I've got the frames in the right position, save, exit and re-open, they've often moved out of position again.

This is like the worst kind of auto-formatting in MS Word. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some way of telling a fragment what contents it should keep within its bounds?

Thanks.

Errm, yes, EA is a bit oversensitive here.
Sometimes if you have a fragment all items which are at least a few pixels inside will move with it.
If one moves a message down too many pixels on the other hand EA tears apart the timeline. My workaround here is to move the messages only several pixels down, then release, then again a few pixels down, etc.

I believe the algorithm used is a bit too sensitive to changes.

Thanks. So: is there a way of showing the layers that are in a diagram? The algorithm must use layering because sometimes moving a frame will also move an unattached note or message above it, but nothing else.

Ah, well, build 829 is here and in the history I can find this change:

# Improved moving of fragments with messages on a sequence diagram.

That might be worth a look. Guess who is rushing to the download pages now...

I have recently logged this issue again in V15. Does anyone have a workaround?

You noticed this is a 10 year old thread?
