When was Enterprise Architect 13 released?

Enterprise Architect 13 was officially released on October 13th, 2016.

 Has the underlying database changed?

How does the upgrade path work if you have Enterprise Architect 12?

You’ll simply download and run the installer from our Enterprise Architect release page. The installer will replace your existing Enterprise Architect 12 installation.

Can you install Enterprise Architect 13 alongside an older version?

Yes. You can simply rename your current installation subfolder from "EA" to "EA-Previous" for example, and then install the new version. (Your installation path by default is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sparx Systems" and the "EA" subfolder resides under that.) You'll then have two subfolders that contain a file named EA.exe, which represent the different versions Enterprise Architect.

To run your previous version, run the EA.exe file from your renamed installation folder.

Dynamic Documents

What are Dynamic Documents in Enterprise Architect?

Create instant reports based on the content stored in model elements. Generate a document view of model elements on-the-fly, generated through customized fragment-like templates, drawing out detailed element content into easily consumable pages. For more information, please refer to the Help Topic on Dynamic Documents in the Document Window.

When you export a Dynamic Document to create an instant report, what formats are supported?

Dynamic documents can be exported to a range of formats including PDF, RTF, DocX and HTML.

Where can I learn more about editing Document Templates in Enterprise Architect?

The Enterprise Architect User Guide includes a comprehensive description of how to use Document Templates. The following webinar link introduce some of the basics in relation to working with document templates and document generation.

I can't see the Document Window? How can I access the Document Window?

The Document Window is available from the Start Ribbon. Start Ribbon | Windows | Document.

Is the Dynamic Document window available in Enterprise Architect 12?

No. The Dynamic Document was only made available in Enterprise Architect 13

Where can I find the Style Templates you edited in the webinar?

Style templates are also held in the Resources window, in the Document Generation > Dynamic Documents Styles folder.

What is the difference between the two tabs in the Document Window?

The Document Window contains two tabs, one for Dynamic Documents and the other for Linked Documents. The 'Dynamic Document' tab of the Document Window helps you to instantly generate a document on a selected element, using one of a range of templates to immediately display the information you require in the most appropriate structure and format. The 'Linked Document' tab of the Document Window provides several quick methods of checking elements for Linked Documents, and for reviewing the documents that exist. It also provides searches to locate and list any elements with Linked Documents in the model, and any elements that have Linked Documents that have been recently modified.
