Copy And Paste Diagram Element

It is possible to copy one or more elements from an open diagram and paste them into a different diagram as either new elements or as links to the original elements.

Copy diagram elements

Select the element(s) to copy.

Either:

  • Right-click and select the 'Copy' option ('Edit | Copy' for single elements), or
  • Press Ctrl+C, or
  • Click on the 'Copy' icon () in the Default Tools toolbar

Paste diagram elements

Open the diagram to paste into.

Either:

  • Click on the Paste button () in the Default Tools toolbar, or
  • Right-click on the diagram background to open the diagram context menu

Select either the 'Paste Element(s) as New' menu option (completely new element) or the 'Paste Element(s) as Link' menu option (reference to the original element).

Notes

  • The Date Created and Time Created parameters of a pasted-as-new element are set to the current date and time; the parameters for a linked element remain the same as the copied element
  • You can also move elements between diagrams by cutting the elements from one diagram and pasting them into another; to cut the selected elements, click on the Cut button () in the Default Tools toolbar
