Off-Page Connectors - Diagram specific
« on: March 20, 2012, 03:04:40 pm »
EA already provides a pseudo mechanism for creating off-page connectors.  One can use the suppress line segment functionality and EA will conveniently provide little "widgets" at the ends of the visible segments of the arc.

Further, if the arc has a name, EA will place the name within the widgets.

However, this functionality isn't sufficient.  First of all, as indicated by the suppress line segment functionality, the requirement to suppress a particular line segment is specific to a diagram.  Consequently, having to set a name (such as "A" or "B" - typical for REAL off-page connectors) means giving the arc a name - an action with consequences for the semantics of the model.  In any event, notwithstanding that the arc is named, the name may not be unique enough.  The value to be placed in the off-page connector widget should be settable on a per-diagram basis.

That way, the widgets can be unique enough for each diagram.

Thoughts?
