Visual Studio bridge problem
« on: June 12, 2006, 06:27:08 pm »
Hi, I installed Enterprise Architect 6.1, as well as the Visual Studio bridge, but as much as I follow the instructions within the help file, I can't get the Package within EA to "connect" to a VS.NET project.  There's no error, it just doesn't do it after I click connect.

I also cannot see any of the necessary menu items in VS.NET associated with EA.

I have the 30-day trial version running, and I'm using VS.NET 2003 with Windows XP Professional.

Check your build of EA and version of Visual Studio. Only in the last couple or so (791, or perhaps 790) has Sparx resolved a few issues with connection to Visual Studio 2003.

This might only be an issue if you have a VS 2005 component installed on the same machine (or perhaps .Net 2.0, I don't know). Since I've had both versions of VS since before the bug was reported, I cannot tell you if it affects systems without VS 2005.

I am trying the same VS 2003, EA build 792  and MDG link. I do not get a connect button, or any VB project appearing in the dialog. Any suggestions?

Long shot here, but try resetting your main menu after you've installed the add-in. [This is actually mentioned in the EA documentation, but you've got to have a microscope and lots of free time to find it.]

You can reset the menu from within EA via the Tools / Customize dialog. On the menu tab click the Reset button. You'll have to redo all your customized menu settings and such.

Thanks I tried this but no joy. I have a new empty project open in EA build 792 and the MDG Link installed both in 30 day trial. I have VS 2003 open with a solution containing one project. When I right click to connect I don't get anything except 'Selected' under the EA Packages list, and I have no 'Connect' button as seen in the help file Getting Started with VSBridge ???

Are you by any chance using the trial version of the MDG Link? I remember something about an earlier version having a 'sunset' date. Perhaps you have that version and it has stopped working.

Try sending Sparx an email asking about this. Otherwise you run the risk of your trial period expiring before you get answers. You probably want the Sales address. While the obvious choice for this is probably right, take a look at the Sparx Web site for the correct address.
