Bug: Incorrect conversion file link in note field
« on: January 15, 2013, 09:28:35 pm »
In the note field of an element, there is an option to add a hyperlink to a word or some text. Select text -> Click hyperlink symbol on the note editor and select File link. Browse to the file using the provided browse button and select the file (in my case mapped drive for a location on the network (Z:\bla\dir1\somefile.doc maps to \\server\documents\bla\dir\somefile.doc).
The hyperlink looks ok in here. When adding a hyperlink to a file to a word in a note (showing Z:\bla\dir1\somefile.doc). Click ok and hoover over the hyperlinked text in the note field. Also here ok, hold ctrl + click the link and the file is opened.

Now when I generate this elements note through the RTF editor, it seems the link is changed in the RTF doc to: \\server\documents\bladirsomefile.doc. So somewhere half way down the link, the box with backslashes seem to have been depleted or so.
Next to that, I also have the same file linked to a package (package properties -> files) to add it to a reference section of the document to generate. In this context, the file hyperlink is generated properly.

Hope someone is able to reproduce and sparx is able to fix.

Best if you create a test case and make a bug report to SPARX.

Thanks for the link. I'm not in possession of a live support account and thought bug reports were for registered users only.

Anyone can send a bug report. Maybe the priority will not be set to high if you're not a registered user. Honestly, I don't have the feeling that the priority rises for registered users  :-/

or you could register your product.

My experience with registered support is they go the extra mile to reproduce the problem and work with you, and generally are prompt with it.

Probably if it's a on-the-fly fixable bug you're right. Unfortunately my bugs were more of the sort "here's the bug and how to produce it" where you get a confirmation and have to wait for an eventual fix. Back in V3 and 4 this was usually within a couple of weeks (or even the next week). But now it's more like the next years. That's the disadvantage of having a complex product.

Just transfered to a new company 2 weeks ago, just working with the licenses available here.
Products are payed for like they should, but just the support account has expired.

Did fill in the bugreport after following the proper link.

Arh well, the fixing of bugs is a different issue, and I have no feeling for whether being registered or not makes a difference. As we know the process is quite opaque.

I hope this will help... Found in a tutorial

Q: Regarding the use of hyperlinks to elements within a Document Fragment, how does Enterprise Architect know what the hyperlink destination is - how do I specify it? There was no reference to an element ID in your example Document Fragment template.
A: When an element is processed during document generation, a start and end bookmark is automatically inserted into the document. When you insert a hyperlink to that element, the hyperlink binds to the first matching bookmark.

Tip: If you wish to report on elements multiple times in a single document, you need to make use of the "No Bookmarks" option. Simply check the "No Bookmarks" option in all templates, except those that contain the information you want to jump to. (By default, "No Bookmarks" is unchecked.) You access the "No Bookmarks" option from the Document Template Designer by clicking the Document Options icon; the "No Bookmarks" option is listed under the first tab.

Hi,

If you look at the RTF as opened within the normal Word editor or any other simple-nonformatting-programm you will find the issue:

Quote
\\ and \
Escapes within the RTF Specification to be used as command or formatting command.

I got the same problem with some scripts which should format the linked document rtf. My bad workaround solution was just very easy: "Double your  \ to \\ and \\ to \\\\"

But I have to agree, it is very annoying.
