Confusion with multiple Decision Table Editors
« on: February 05, 2021, 03:10:07 am »
Hello, I want to create a decision table in a diagram.  I created a DMN diagram and added a Business Knowledge Model element.  I double clicked on the element and got the DMN Expression editor and began entering the decision table.  I then noticed that the element wasn't being rendered as a decision table.  I right clicked on the element, selected Simple Decision Table -> Draw Decision table (rules as rows).

Now the element is rendered as a decision table, but it is empty!  I right clicked on the element again, selected Simple Decision Table -> Decision Table and get _a different decision table editor_!!!. This other editor has fewer features and is harder to use, but entries in it do get rendered in the diagram. I am so confused!

I just want a decision table on a diagram, generated using the DMN Expression editor!

Hello amyers,

The 'Simple Decision Table' menu is for different feature. EA has two features related to the Decision table, one is DMN conformance and another is common Decision table (e.g. for UML modelling). If you define some table as DMN Decision table, the data is different from the common Decision table.

If I remember correctly, you can not show content of a DMN Decision table in diagrams since DMN specification defines that every element is shown as shape, not actual data.
