Show differences with just created baseline
« on: June 08, 2013, 01:50:11 am »
I created a new baseline for a package from the model

I then immediately selected that baseline and clicked on Show Differences

It consistently shows differences in the 6 Association links, even though the baseline has just been created from the model, then immediately diffed

The 6 links

The compare utility output

So for the particular link selected above it thinks that the model has a qualifier "Successfully Validated Against Policy" that is not in the baseline, but the baseline was created from the model. All of the other reported diffs are similar with the Qualifier supposedly in the model but not in the baseline.

I then deleted the package and restored it from the baseline, now surely it must be the same as the baseline ? Nope Show Differences against the baseline I just restored from, still reports the links as being different due to the Qualifiers being in the model but not in the baseline

Anybody else seen weird beaviour like this, its quite a large model this diagram is just one small part of it, but it is consistently reported as differing from the baseline

As I posted more than once: the XML compare is scrap. It never worked. And even if, the result would be quite doubtful. You don't get any context information. If you delete an element then you see that an element AND a number of connectors has gone. Each information independent to the other. You do not see the context (which had been explained in a couple of diagrams).

It's the same error in reasoning when using version control. Both are useful for text files (code source), but fail completely on models.
