Relationship Matrix - acting a bit weird

Any help on this would be good.  I have created a set of requirements and display them in the relationship matrix and "trace" them to another set of requirements.  Those traces then show up in the traceability window so I reckon all is good.  However, when I run the Orphan report it shows those elements as orphans.

IF i then create a diagram and drag all of those elements onto the diagram they show up as traced.  If I save the diagram and then run the orphan report the orphans no longer appear.

Is there a known issue where I have to set up tracing via a diagram to ensure that requirements do not come up as orphans, or is something not quite right with the relationship matrix?

In EA parlance, an orphan is simply an element that doesn't appear on any diagram.
