MDH Togaf v3: issue with MS Jet engine
« on: January 07, 2015, 03:56:56 am »
Just installed the latest version of the Togaf MDG extension (version 3) in the latest version of EA version 11.1.

Unfortunately, I still experience an issue with the installed MDG extension. The TOGAF extension menu is empty. When I go to the MDG extension folder to open the TOGAF example project, I get this error message:

An error Occurred: The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file <c:\location ect>. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.

However the Togaf example project can be opened when I start EA as an Administrator. Once the file is opened, the extension is no longer empty.

Is there a solution to properly install the Togaf extension?

The previous version also had its issues..

Cheers,

Dave

It looks like the TOGAF add-in is trying to open it's example model directly from the install path. We will need to update it to work the same way as EA in that regard, but in the mean time you could install to a path not requiring Administrator access.

It sounds like you have tried to directly open the file from the installation directory.  You need to use the "Open Example Model" menu command under Extensions | TOGAF to open the file correctly.

The TOGAF menu currently appears to be blank while there is no model open - we are aware of this and will correct it in a future release.  In the meantime, try opening another file such as the EA Example model first (Help | Open Example Model).  You should now be able to access the Extensions | TOGAF menu.  Select Extensions | TOGAF | Open Example Model.

It is not possible to open an EAP file directly from below the Program Files directory tree as you will typically not have write access to this location.  The Open Example Model command copies the file to your %APPDATA% directory and then opens from there.
