EA 12 Import DB schema from Project Browser
« on: March 23, 2015, 02:51:49 pm »
EA 12 Corporate edition Import DB schema using Project Browser context menu

Using the project browser
  • unlock package
  • context menu for package
  • Code engineering > Import DB schema from ODBC
nothing happens

Has this functionality been deprecated in favour of the data base builder and someone forgot to remove it from the context menu?

It worked for me just now, on a MySQL database.

Interesting, thanks. I'm using a SQL Server repository.
I can get to the dialogue via the Database Builder, but no longer via the code engineering menu, hmmm, I'll see what else I can find out

Well you know what.

RoyC - I'll bet when you did this you had a diagram from the database folder open.

So here is the thing, EA should provide an error message saying "you can't import a DB schema as you haven't opened a diagram from the database folder"

Sorry, I gotta a say this (after wasting my time), EAUI, and I guess bug/feature request.

Well, how MUCH would you bet? I'll take NZD by bank draft or direct transfer. Or - in true gambler style - any fancy sports car, work of art or property in Ponsonby or on the bay.

I didn't have any diagram open, and I've wandered around several of my 'sandbox' models without going near the database builder. If I have any concern it's that it seems to be TOO easy to import from a database via ODBC - my sandboxes are now full of imported Tables that I have no real need for.

Well that's cute, I shall have to look into it further, but it appears definitely to be the cause for me!.

PS sorry, I'm a Wellington aficionado.

PPS thanks

I can't test SQL Server at the moment. I'm not a DB expert by any means, but perhaps there is something in the database type? I'll see what others might say.

You like Wellington boots? Well, I prefer Aussie Blundstones, so I'll let you off the bet.

**EDIT: The nearest thing we have to a DB Guru (AND IT'S A CLOSE-RUN THING) also cannot replicate the problem, so send us a bug report with your Package structure so that we can analyze it in more detail. Unless you have already done so.
