Task Lists
« on: June 06, 2002, 12:04:15 pm »
The help system says at the present time there is no report for the task list.  Are there plans in the near future to implement a report?

I agree, task lists would be useful. I often use MS Access to generate custom reports out of my projects. To get a task list I:

  • Open the project in Access (you'll need to enter *.EAP into the filename box to show and select EA projects). Depending on your Access version you may get a message saying you can't modify the database structure.
  • Select and open the "t_tasks" table
  • Select all records (CTRL-A), copy, and then paste into your favourite word processor.

A warning, you can change the data while in Access and alter your EA project.

Cheers,
Mark

Thanks for the input.  I was thinking of running a report from access but since we are using Access 2000 it wants to convert.  All that works just fine but our project managers balk of having to go through that when they can generate reports for issues, etc via EA.  I guess another question is if there are any plans to upgrade to Access 2000.  Probably still too many people on older versions  ;) to convert yet.

Hmm, another approach is to create a new Access 2000 database with a linked t_task table to the EAP file. You can then run queries over the linked table from Access or directly from Word. Might even be able to set up something to link straight into MS Project.
Cheers,
Mark

Hi,

It is actually possible to use an Access 2000 format .EAP.
In the View/Options Dialog there is a check box to use JET 4.0. If you tick this, and have the JET 4.0 .dll's installed on your machine, then you can work with Access 2000 format models.

We do not yet distribute the base model in 2000 format, nor do we distribute the JET 4.0 dll's (although you can download these from Microsoft) - but if you are in a situation where you need the repository in 2000 format, this could be an option.

We have a few more web pages to do for the HTML reporting - and I would eexpect the Task List to form one of those (testing, glossary etc.) An RTF version would follow later.

By the way, if you have any suggestions as to the layout and form the RTF report would take - post me a mock up in RTF - or drop me a copy of the report output you already do in Access.

Cheers,
Geoff Sparks
