Replication and DBMS

If we are using a DBMS is there a way to still make use replication and synchronization? I noticed those two options were grayed once I transfered the model to the DBMS.

Thinking about this a little more I realized that there might be issues regarding security in the replicated model however I found the replication/synchronize feature useful. Does anyone else have any other ideas about work arounds.
