New or Create in Sequence Diagrams

How do I add the New (or Create) "message" in a sequence diagram?

I cannot emulate the diagrams as in Fowler's "UML Distilled" for the "new" operation. I can neither position the object other than top, nor can I see the "new" message in the drop down of messages.

P.S. I found it - Set Lifecycle to New!
