Having problems with XMI export
« on: April 09, 2004, 07:07:40 am »
If you noticed my previous message, I couldn't write an XMI file with the free trial version.  I didn't get any answers to my post, so I went ahead an bought it anyway (Professional version), and I still can't get my project to write to XMI.  Is it because my project was created in the free trial version?  HELP!!!!

Thanks,
Lorin Johnson

Hi Lorin,

I have never had problems exporting XMI. Can you tell me what precisely happens when you do the export?

Thanks for replying...I think I got it.  I was just typing a name into the filename text box, and when I clicked the Export button, absolutely nothing happened.  When I browsed using the "..." button, the whole directory path went into the text box and export did just fine.  I think there's a problem there.

Thanks for your help.  By trying to define the problem better for you, I was able to correct it.
Lorin

P.S. - I still have the problem of not having the pop-up box that asks if I want to create an instance when I drag a class onto a diagram.  Any ideas?

Hi,

glad it is resolved! The file probably got created in the current directory before (the EA directory? Windows directory? Temp?)
I do not know how to get the dialog back, but there may be a workaround - create a new model, export your existing model into XMI (now you know how!) and import it into the new one. I have not tested this, but I would guess the settings like the one you are looking at will be reset to their default options.
I am sure there is an easier way, but I have no idea what would it be! :-)

Answer to the P.S. question: Hold down Ctrl while you drag.

Best regards
