Provider is no longer available
« on: July 02, 2004, 03:35:43 pm »
I am using the latest version of EA and trying to use it with a server repository.  When I select "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" or "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers" in the Link Properties dialog, I get this message:

Provider is no longer available.  Ensure that provider is installed properly.

However, some of the other options, such as "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" and "Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider" do not have this problem.

I have tried reinstalling EA, getting every XP Home update possible, reinstalled MDAC, switching from MDAC 2.8 SDK to 2.7, installing a 120 evaluation version of Microsoft SQL Server that was once on the machine and lots of rebooting.

EA works fine from local files.

I am a registered user.  I don't know if this forum is where one is supposed to go with this kind of issue.

Thanks,

Bruce,
I'm also an EA user and reading this forum quite regularly. To my knowledge there is no problem like yours being discussed recently. If for a week you don't get any other response I'm probably proven right. So as you are a registered user you can call Sparx' excellent support.

A quick google pointed me to this location http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS02-056.mspx. Maybe it's of help for you?

Btw.: Happy rebooting has been my favorite job the last week after my registry went out for vacation :-[
