Creating multiple objects in a sequence diagram
« on: September 22, 2004, 07:14:28 am »
I want to create a sequence diagram that shows the concept of creating multiple records in a file. I therefore want to show a "new" message iterating over a collection of 'record' objects.
What's the best way to show this? Larman shows the UML representation where a collection of objects has a double box (one behind the other) at the top of a lifeline, but I can't see any way to create this in EA. Any suggestions on how you represent this common concept would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul.

After adding the lifeline object, select Set Multiplicity... from the context menu.  You can explicitly set the instance multiplicity there which will appear as a standard multiplicity indicator in the object box at the top of the lifeline.
The "double box" indicator was taken out of EA some time ago and replaced with the explicit indication.  AFAIAC its better this way as the double box does not indicate the specific multiplicity and  there are some problems in UML with multiplicities of 0..1 etc!.
