Callbacks in sequence diagrams
« on: April 01, 2004, 09:08:19 pm »
Only slightly related to discussion

How can I show the following using EA, I think I've tried every combination on the sequence context menu
and nothing seems to work.

Hi Jim,

I can't see the picture (may bee it't broken). But I think you have the same problem than me.

I also tryed every combination.

Looks like it's not possible with EA doing such things.  :(

Well here is the best that I can come up with for now. I am a little disappointed because, as much as I'm not
fond of it, this is very easy to show in Rose.

What I've done is use auto instance to place two "views" of the same instance on the diagram. Then its
easy to show the callback "v()" on Class1. Its also easier to explain to someone who is not into UML.

EA is not able to do this. I have requested it and received this reply:

"Unfortunately, we don't currently have the functionality to support your first request -- reflecting a new method invocation from an external call to the target lifeline.  This is something that should and will be implemented.  Thank you for the note."

I am looking forward to getting this fixed too.

Best regards,
Mikkel

Yes, I am also trying to do this... I had started a new thread (http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=general;action=display;num=1100877546) and someone directed me to his one.

 Ciao

I can see the feature has not been implemented with the 4.5 releases. I must admit this is one of the thing which is keeping us from finally migrating to using EA (and buying our licenses... our demo has already gone in delayed mode!), the other issue being some unreliability in importing large C++ classes with lots of #includes (single issues are not reproducible in small test classes). Doing a lot of system-level programming, callbacks are daily bread for us: the ability to properly model them is kind of important...  :-/
