Printing ERD Model
« on: December 13, 2004, 09:28:11 am »
Hello All,

Another question: Is it possible for me to print the zoomed in version of my ERD?

The software is spitting out the design in 25-30 pages.

Regards,
Larry

Hi Larry,

AFAIK EA is not able to directly zoom the diagrams, since it does the layout directly on the pages that have been set up (the drawing area).

But what will be possible is to zoom through the printer driver. If not directly, then at least by creating a single huge page (30 times the size of the standard page in your case), so EA can fit the diagram on that single page.

Then, in the print dialog, there should be something to allow scaling the print to one page.

Not sure how readable things get though... :-)

Hope this helps,
Mike

Another way could be to copy/paste the metafile drawing to another tool with more graphics capabilities.

G'day,

I answered the same question in Larry's other post:

I can't figure out a way to natively print a section of a diagram in EA.  I would suggest that it would be wise to split your super-large diagram into many smaller ones.  They could be put back together as a large diagram with (look in EA's help index) "Hyperlinks" (using frames, which essentially gives you diagrams within diagrams).

Alternatively, you could use something like SnagIt, a screen capture utility that lets you grab any area on your monitor for capture and printing.
Cheers and best regards.

When we need to drop out very large diagrams, and we have some Activity diagrams over 20 pages (I know, I know - don't get me started on that one!) we export the diagrams (via the clipboard) to Excel - not the most elegant way of doing it, but very effective!
