DOORS & EA diagram output
« on: February 15, 2005, 07:27:14 am »
Hi,

Quick question -- our Requirements Mgmt tool in use is DOORS.  I don't know a lot about it, but I am getting complaints from the RM team about us wanting to import EA created UML diagrams.   They want us to revert EA diagrams to Visio (w/UML plugin), so that the version that is imported into the DOORS tool is modifiable (they don't have EA).

I don't really understand OLE format -- but the DOORS product brief claims it can import any OLE object.  It seems EA has some support for OLE.  Is there something that can be done here, so that we can export diagrams in a format that could be accepted by DOORS, and still allow those diagrams to be edited (i.e. not bitmap format).

Thanks,
Davis

I'm not very firm with the latest VISIO standards. But AFAIK VISIO uses it's own drawing format (accessible with OLE). So the requirement from your requirement management team are not quite clear. What version do they refer to? If you export UML diagrams you could use XMI which can (in most cases) be interpreted by other UML tools. I'm not shure whether you can import XMI into VISIO - and I don't see the advantage in using VISIO then ???

Actually -- this problem has been solved with the EMF/WMF format output that EA does.

This format can be re-sized and edited in MS Word before import into DOORS, so it actually works out very well.
