split projects in more then one *.EAP-file
« on: April 06, 2005, 05:17:06 am »
Is it possible to split big projects in more then one *.EAP files? For example, i have one Component-diagramm and each component points to here own *.EAP file.

Thanks Lutz

Splitting into multiple .EAP is possible in theory. You have to control packages via XMI ex-/import. But the better way is surely to migrate to a SQL server. EA supports MS SQL, Oracle, mySql and others.

Hi Thomas,

how does migrating to a SQL server help with splitting the model into multiple ones?

Thanks,
Bruno

It was not my intention to help splitting but circumvent the cause for splitting. I should have asked why Whisky wants to split project. I simply assumed it was for performance reasons.  :-[

I have a lot reasons for split:
- more then one developer at different places (online and some times offline)
- we have to use a source safe tool
- a very large project
- not all of diagramms are for publishing  ;D
......

The solution with Visual Source safe is working fine, but we have to use Clear Case (Rational).
Anybody try it?

Thanks for help

Lutz

Not me, but I remember it has been discussed in the forum (try a search for clear case). I also remeber that it worked...

Regarding your first question I was not too far away :) Most of your concerns could be solved using a SQL server and EA's security mechanism (you need a corporate license).

Thanks! It's working in ClearCase. Some little problems, but i'm hopefully to resolve it   ;D

@Thomas:  ...you need a corporate license... this is a problem too, we use only professional version  :-[

I don't have exact numbers but the upgrade price is quite moderate. You could start testing with 2 upgraded licenses and then decide.

Have a nice weekend too  :)
