Spell checking posts...
« on: May 06, 2005, 04:39:30 pm »
I try to maintain a professional image ::) by spell checking my forum posts.

Until yesterday I didn't have a web active spell checker.  Now I do:
http://www.iespell.com
for MS Internet Explorer.
Works a treat!  Recommend it! :D

Unlike yobbos like you, I woz tort English proper...    :P

No, I just finally found a way to spell check my web input...  And I thought I'd share it...

However, I will admit, I'm like the kid in The Sixth Sense - I see dead punctuation...   8) (With apologies to Lynne Truss - who wrote "Eats, Shoots and Leaves")

Bad spelling and punctuation does grate... :(  It's innate...  And with the right support, there's no excuse...

Except, the Microsoft grammar tools are forever nagging about [not] using the passive voice, and are thus responsible for the loss of a mode of expression - especially useful in technical documents, where things have other things done to them.

Why shouldn't the passive voice be used ?  ;D

Shock Horror!  Microsoft tools are customisable! :o

Tools|Options|Spelling & Grammar|Settings - select Technical Style and passive sentences are allowed by default! :D

Haven't used it in anger since Office 97 (on my laptop: why buy another version ?) ... things must have changed ! I do remember sending in some Feedback to MS about the poor old Passive voice.
