Best Way of showing Element Notes
« on: June 17, 2005, 05:05:24 am »
Please, what is the best way of showing element notes on an activity diagram. The problem with specifying them in the element dialog is that that they get hidden away. Should I copy the text tot a note element or is there some preference visibility setting for an Activiry element to show the notes?

Thanks,

Sam

Sam,

Add an empty note to the diagram, use the note link to link the note to the element.  Then right click the note link.  You'll see the option "link this note to element feature"  select Element note and Voila - you've got what you wanted.  8) This is one of EA's neatest features...

Now, for the piece de resistance (in my opinion).  Make the activity big enough to hold the note, drag the note onto the activity.  Adjust the activity boundaries till satisfied.  Right click on the note link, pin both ends of the note link.  Now, drag the activity (not the note) around - the note goes with it!  8) 8) Majik!

Paolo

You could insert the Note and then link it to the element note contents ("link a note to an element" in Help).

In this way, the diagram Note will display the element notes field text.

(Right click on Note, "Link this Note to an Element Feature", select feature to link to.)

Is there a way of putting a hyperlink or icon on a SubActivity element to show that it has a note, and then when you click it, it goes straight to the note rather than clicking on 'View Properties'. The icon idea also show clearly which element have notes and which do not.

Thanks,

Sam

Sam,

If you keep a Notes window open (Ctrl-Shift-I - docked) then the note will show if present.  That's (I think ) as good as it gets at present.  I agree, an adornment would be nice.  I tend to ensure ALL my classifiers have notes so I actually have a DB query that finds those without notes and colours their lines in  pukey purple to force me to add the notes!

Submit a formal suggestion about the adornment.
