Code Generation And Function Graph Issues
« on: October 22, 2005, 10:41:27 am »
Hi Guys.
I purchased one corporate copy for evaluation. Here are the problems I have:

Prerequisites:
I installed this copy on my desktop and my laptop.
I started with existing project. I reverce engineered it in EA and then started to enhance it. As a repository I set up MS SQL 2000 database. The project has different root path on the desktop and the laptop. I am evaluating this to be used in a team 10+ people so we will definitely have different пройецт root paths.

Issues:
1. I see that EA saves in the database the project root path for the computer last updated.
1.1 The only way I found after playing with EA, RFD and this forum was the generate code dialogs. Which is very time consuming procedure.
1.2 If I update the tree from one machine the "generate code" from another machine ALWAYS override the changes  despite the fact that I need synchronization only.
I cant use forward/reverse engineer either cause the first one override the code updated from another machine and the second override the current chhanges.

My question is: What I am doing wrong? Is there anybody really using EA in team environment with many different roles and configurations?

2. Is there "function call graph" feature?
I need a visual report how a specific class method is called within the project. Rational have (at least had) this and it is a killer for reengineering and code reviews, especially in large projects.

Try looking at the local paths feature.  http://sparxsystems.com.au/EAUserGuide/index.html?localpaths.htm  It's designed specifically for the problem that you have described.

You can also set the filepath by opening the properties window.

No, EA doesn't have support for any kind of "function call graph" feature.
