Reusing/Copying and renaming Root Nodes
« on: November 18, 2005, 11:59:24 am »
Hi All,

New to EA and have a question.  Brief background to help set up the premise, though...

We're using EA in a a multi-group multi-project evironment.  There will be a single repository in a single Oracle schema.  The EA "security" will be used to limit the possiblity of "too many cooks in the Kitchen".  And we'll be integrating our version control [Starteam] into the mix as well.  So far so good and I've got this all set up.

My plan is to use root nodes for each group within our organization and then within those root nodes set up the individual "projects" that each group is assigned.  I don't think I've wandered outside of EA's intended use so far... but was wondering if it is possible to reuse or copy a root node/package as a default base for each new project [and when I say project here I mean an organizational project not an ea project] within a single EA project repository?  We're using v6.0 build 778 Corporate edition.  I can't seem to export/import one of these successfully but am not sure that is the correct way to do it anyways.

What steps would be necessary to accomplish this, or maybe I should first ask - is this even possible?

Thanks for any insight.
Jeff M.

You should be able to copy a root node by exporting it as XMI and then re-importing it with the "Strip GUID's" option checked.
