Can't connect to server as non administrator
« on: January 04, 2006, 07:31:17 am »
I have installed the software and am trying to connect to the server where the model is stored.

I am on a PC with XP pro installed.  The software was installed in administrator account.

When I go to a non admin account I can start up the tool but when I try to connect to the server I go through the connection dialog and it gives me an error that it can't find some software.

If I log back on as administrator and then do the connection I can go through the connection setup just fine and I'm in.  If I change my user account to an admin account again no problems.  When I changed it back I ran into the same problems.

I'm unsure whether or not the problem is EA or the Oracle Client.  Is there a registry setting that must be adjusted?

It would seem to be a permissions issue for non admin accounts.

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

On the EA main screen I click Connect to Server ...

If I am not an admin then the dialog: Data Link Properties pops up. (When I was admin it popped up and I entered the server particulars).  When I select Oracle Provider for OLE DB another box pops up indicating: Microsoft Data Link Error, Provider is no longer available.

Given that the problem does not present itself when I admin it would seem to be a permissions problem.  Although I'm not sure if it is EA or the Oracle Client with the problem.

Thanks,
Rick

This seems to be a database authorization problem rather than one of EA. Can you connect with simple tools (e.g. MSQRY32) and show the tables and their contents?
