Using Database DataTypes
« on: February 05, 2006, 02:22:41 pm »
Hi All --

One of our modellers has gone off and produced a rather nice logical data model in EA.  Unfortunately we are now stumped about associating the datatype to the tables.

We've read through the EA Help files and know that we need to have set up the Database Datatypes.  In fact, the EA Help seems to imply that that datatypes should have been setup before the logical data model.

We've gone to the Database Datatypes screen and try as we might we can't seem to get anything to save.  We select DB2 from the product list and then we've played around with it in a variety of ways but can't seem to get anything saved, not even if we add a new datatype.

What the heck are we doing wrong?  Does our poor modeller have to start from scratch?

Thanks for your help.

Vonnie.

Hi Vonnie,

I'm not exactly sure what situation you're in.

It sounds a bit like you've got a model but the types aren't set according to your database.

Each of your tables should have DB2 set as the database before the DB2 datatypes will be available in it.

You may also find a transformation that sets this and possibly the datatypes for each column useful.

Hi Simon -

From your reply, it sounds like we're missing a step somewhere along the way.   Currently the datatypes drop down field available for the tables are blank.  I think we've misinterpreted the EA Help about how to set DB2 as the database from what I can glean from your reply.

I will go back and have another try and see if I can't make this work.

I'll let you know whether I have any success or not!  :)  Thanks for your help.

Oh good - just went back and read the EA Help from scratch very quickly.  And fixed the problem.  So simple.  So, so simple.  :-[

Thanks for your help  :)
