Business Process Modeling
« on: February 09, 2006, 05:27:57 am »
I am an Enterprise Architect in a medium-size corportaion.

I am currently evaluating the EA 6.0 to assess if it is the right tool to use across the project team (From Req't -> QA). The problem I am facing is that my company is pushing swimlane standards for Business Process Modeling. Is there any support within the EA tools for Swimlane?

The other question is regarding the BPMN and BPEL Standrads and SOA. Can I export my business process model to a BPEL? and can I translate it ot BPMN?

Just FYI, the latest version of EA is version 6.1 and with this comes support for BPMN 1.1   Have a look at
http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/products/mdg_bpmn.html

In terms of swimlanes,  these are supported.  For example on an activity diagram, right-click and select "Swimlanes.." from the context menu.   Here swimlanes can only be vertical or horizontal but not both.   However if you add boundaries to your diagrams, they have the ability to have both vertical and horizontal swimlanes at the same time.   Just select the boundary, right-click for the context menu, choose properties and then choose the number of horizontal and vertical swimlanes you require withn the boundary.

Hope this helps
