Do i have to "patch"
« on: March 07, 2006, 06:33:29 am »
This may sound obvious to u guys, but is baffling to me.
Do i have to apply the EA patch after using the full setup of 6.1 build 788?

The patch and the full setup are both released on the same day.
So i thought maybe don't need the patch.

But then the website said "download the full version of EA 6.1 and install it before using the patch".
So i thought maybe need to install the patch.

Then, the instructions for applying the patch stated on the website is different from that in the patch's readme.txt file. The website says only to copy the EA.exe while the readme.txt says copy all the files in the patch zip file.

So, do i need to apply the patch??? If so, how???

As I understand it a patch is an upgrade (or new build) for the same version number. So if you previously installed an older version you have to run the full set-up, if you already had version 6.1 installed (but a previous build) you should use the patch. This is how I do my upgrades and this seems to work fine.

Once you installed a full setup you are done. To save download time you can later upgrade using the zips whenever a new release is out. Just replace the old stuff in the EA program directory by the new contents (I never backed up the old EA.exe as Sparx recommends and never had any problem - I update quite often).
