RTF Template editing and {Element.Type} filtering?
« on: May 02, 2006, 10:55:02 pm »
Hi All,
I'm a newbie to EA. Is it possible to apply some kind of filter to connected element types linked to the current element being reported on?
I.e. I'd like to just insert Connector->Source->Element where the element type is "Actor".

I've looked through the help but have not found anything that could help me.

No sure what your precise need is, but can you solve this by adding selected elements to a diagram and then reporting on what's in the diagram.

You can right-click on an element in a diagram, then from the context menu choose Add / Insert Related Elements. This will bring up a dialog which will allow you to choose the element type, direction of connector, number of steps to go out from the current element, and so forth. These will be added to the diagram as if you dragged them from the Project View yourself.

Reporting usually works at the package level, so think about doing this on a diagram in a package you've set up for reporting purposes (at least until you are comfortable with the feature). You may want to open the diagram properties dialog (F5) and uncheck Highlight Foreign Parents.
